I am working as a Project Manager, I am PMP certified, I have a master's and doctorate in IT project management.  I am working in a bank where I have 30 years' work experience. I am being paid $16.00 an hour.  I was being paid $ 94,000 a year.  I left that job because of a breast cancer diagnosis.  When I was able to return to work this is all I could find. I have been submitting applications for 1 1/2 years.  I have submitted hundreds of applications.  I have only gotten a handful of interviews.  I feel I am being taken advantage of.  My education and experience are being utilized but not acknowledged. 

Soon I will turn 60. Given that I am reliant on my spouse for income, and my employment history is very limited because all my jobs did not last, is it time for me to be realistic with myself and get out of the field of eLearning and Web Design? I love the field and don't want to leave. But given that there are so many talented younger people in the field I am wondering about my viability as I enter my older years. And who is to say I will still be married. I don't' want to leave this field. After all, I do have skills. But I have been rejected so many times after having job interviews. I feel lost! And I am scared!

We know that some businesses still like to play stupid when it comes to hiring.  But when it comes time to say "Enough is enough", I have seen where some people choose to start their own business.  In the landscaping industry, much of it requires a CDL or something.  As when it comes to mowing or vacuuming leafs, you need to have a truck with a trailer.  Now what I have seen on the market are riding mowers where you can steer and accelerate with two levers.  And some dealers might even sell you a cab to put onto your riding mower.  Leaf vacuums are really mounted on a trailer and have a chute that tosses the chopped up leafs into the truck.  And often the truck is really a tricked out city delivery truck where the back door is a roll up type with several of it's sashes missing in order to make room for the chute to belch the yard debris into the truck and they also dump when it comes time to empty the cargo area.  I think the best cab for a truck

This is actually pretty clever.  You don't have to give your age, but you DO have to record that date you graduated from college.  It helps employers legally skirt the age issue because they are not asking for your birthdate, but they are getting the info another way. Should AARP champion the removal of this requirement?Jeff Johnson

   I am looking for companies that have remote jobs with flexible hours.  What are the best websites to research these jobs?   I see lots of ads for this type of work, but I never know if they are the real deal or not.    Thanks for any help or advice you can give me.

I am over 80 and still working. I am wondering how many other AARP members over 80 are still working for pay at age over 80.

I was going to apply for a weekend job at Kaldi's Coffee in Kirkwood and when I looked at the career page, I noticed a couple of errors.  One was about education.  I alerted them about it when it at first said something about the year graduated from school or college and they did fix that.  And if it's work history, if it's a job I retired from, I did learn that if you keep the word "retired" secret from the application, it would make it a little bit harder to age discriminate.  But how do you approach it if the application marks it as a required field?  Don't you that that is a mistake on the application?  I let them know about it.

 I have been working at a nursing home for almost 30 years as a dietary manager. I was good at my job. For the past few years owner ship of nursing home has gone through several changes. this last year owners who are basis in California started running the home. they came in complaining of overtime and missed punches on the clock. I tried to explain to them that I can't force people to work. Sure, we have good people that are willing to step up and work extra hours to ensure the residents are feed and taken care of. That was my number one action to ensure residents were treated with respect and fed.   Well, they fired me last week. For those complainants as stated above. They planned well in advance to fire me hiring my replacement weeks before. The new manager even said they wanted to go younger in my position. They did not offer me any kind of retirement package of even a demotion. I gave my heart and soul to that place. The HILLTOP at blue river care located in K

The job board lists a number of software engineering jobs for UnitedHealth Group as being in "Hyderabad, Indiana". Those jobs are actually in India, not Indiana. So... misleading at best. 

At work the other day, I witnessed one of our more seasoned(read older) employees bullying an employee about half their age. They were belittling the employee's work production, work ethic, and other characteristics. They were essentially raising their voice at every opportunity. They were finger pointing; even placing their hands on the younger employee from time to time.  The older employee wasn't even their supervisor!!!!! What should I do?  Report the incident to HR or not get involved?  

Thank you to all US Government Employees! We, the working generations of this Country know the years, months, hours you've devoted to service for us. My two great-aunts worked for the US Government during the Korean and Vietnam wars, after my step-grand-Mom worked during WWII as a translateur. None of these people received "social security" as it was not yet established. So, I now thank each and every United States Government Employee and please know we are with each and every of you! #StaySafe

Published October 22, 2024. Remote work is creating new opportunities for all jobseekers, but especially so for older adults with disabilities, according to a new study. Researchers from the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College (CRR) found that between 2018 and 2022 there was an 11.6 percent increase in telework employment for people with disabilities between the ages of 51 and 64.   Many Federal employees are being asked in an email to describe their job, describe what they did last week and to what benefit for the country is your job. This doesn’t seem to be too much of an imposition - everybody should know what they do and what benefit they give to the whole.  Right? Would you answer this email ASAP or just disregard it?  Think about your current or last job - would you be able to supply such info?Too much to ask?
