Our Front Porch

Hoping you enjoy your daily coffee! Please note that my posts here are NOT copyrighted so feel free to repost them If you so wish!

Life takes us through so many different experiences—relationships, family, work, difficult times, happy moments, and unexpected changes. I’d love to hear from others about the things life has taught you along the way. What experience has changed the way you see life? What advice would you give your younger self? What brings you happiness these days? And what is something you’ve learned that you wish you had known earlier? Feel free to share your story, big or small. I think we can learn a lot from each other.

New topic featuring funny stories. This is something to think about when negative people are doing their best to rain on your parade… So remember this story the next time …A woman was at her hairdresser's getting her hair styled for a trip to Rome with her husband.. She mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded: " Rome? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded and dirty. You're crazy to go to Rome. So, how are you getting there?""We're taking Continental," was the reply. "We got a great rate!"Continental?" exclaimed the hairdresser. "That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome?""We'll be at this exclusive little place over on Rome's Tiber River called Teste.""Don't go any further. I know that place. Everybody thinks it’s going to be something special and exclusive, but it's really a dump.""We're going to go to see the Vatican and maybe get to see the Pope.""That's ri

If you sent a message requesting a response from someone that you know received your message and, yet, they did not respond on purpose, would you consider that rude, impolite, and discourteous if they were: (1) A Friend(2) A Politician(3) Manager Of A Retail Entity(4) A Low Level Administrative Person In A Membership Organization Like A Church Or Union(5) A Co-Worker Would their status to you affect how you felt about the purposeful ignoring of your concerns?

I’ve been thinking about how our idea of a good day changes as we get older. When I was younger, I was always looking ahead to the next big thing. These days, I find myself appreciating the simple stuff a lot more — a good cup of coffee, getting outside, working in the garden, a laugh with a friend, or even just having a quiet evening after a busy day.I’m still working, so I definitely notice those little moments when I actually get time to slow down. For me, I think one of the biggest changes is simply learning to enjoy where I am instead of always rushing toward what’s next. What’s something simple in your everyday life that you appreciate much more now than you did when you were younger? 😊

👍Tell us about YOUR "good old days"...... BORN: Age 50 - 1973, Age 60 - 1963, Age 70 - 1953, Age 80 - 1943, Age 90 - 1933, Age 100 - 1923.

There are over 20,000 functioning ligIhthouses around the world. I have seen about 75 of them  over the years. Many of them on the Pacific coast and the Great Lakes Sorry it took so long to set up this next topic!

Did not get what I thought.  Had an electrical issue that was urgent and told their "chosen" vendor had no appointments for one week.   I am not renewing my coverage and urge all considering it to get full details as to response time.  Lots of rhetoric about language in the agreement that you dont see in their ads and AARP promoting tthem

While I haven’t really been into this Fourth this year, as I’m not feeling it with all that’s going on that I think the founders would be appalled to see.  I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday.  Watching fireworks since I was a kid has been my favorite.  I do plan on doing that at least.  Just don’t have the same joy this year.       It feels odd not feeling that pride today of all days..  Anyone else have a blah-like feeling this year?  I’d like to get out of that funk about it, but haven’t been able to shake it.

Glad to join all you nice people on the front porch. Save me a rocking chair. It's my first day so just a little nervous.Possible topics include sports, books, authoring books, 60's and 70's rock, cancer, and anything you wish to add. I'm open to all topics. If I don't know much about a topic, I'll ask questions and listen intently.I'm a pretty well-rounded person with a unique sense of humor. AARP is a very comprehensive web site. Often times it is recommended for seniors to connect. I believe I am in Community right now. Think I went to front porch. Not sure. Can someone help me sort this all out. There is so much here to look at but I just want to get to the normal conversations between members. I am in "Our Front Porch" . Just saw that. Needs some help here 😀

Looks I'll keep my dime.  The answer is Abbott & Costello for their comedy routine, "WHOSE ON FIRST".

I'm finding it more and more difficult to know what I'm seeing on You Tube is real or AI. You experiencing the same? Joe

Couldn't find a sports forum.  Two members of the Baseball Hall of Fame have no direct connection to baseball.   They weren't players, managers or coaches, umpires, or owners,  Can you think of who they might be? A shiny new dime for the first correct answer.  Joe

Yesterday, I was sitting on my patio listening to a 24 year old phone message.   A cardinal was perched nearby scrutinizing me as I watched the sun rise….       And then a tiny smile edged across my face as I reflected that….all those years ago, not one soul called to make a final stock deal, not one soul called their boss to tell him that he was a jerk, not one soul called their neighbor to tell them to stop their dog from barking all night, not one soul called to tell a friend with opposing political views that they were insane, not one soul called a colleague to tell them that they stole an idea …. They all reached out to someone one final time to tell them that they were loved.     I realized that there are just so many precious fleeting moments that I need to recognize - and that I should somehow more proactively better my own tiny part of the world.      So I did.  Silly little gestures and

If you haven’t already heard this version, please give it a try - preferably outdoors with your face tilted up to greet the sun! 🌞     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lpofy_VJVug

I am truly welcoming Spring! 💐

Instead of enduring more distressing National and International news, I decided to search for some hopeful, optimistic news….    I found a story that brought a smile to my face.    Here it is:Maybe just a drop, but there is already a ripple……  And if anyone reading this thinks, “But this is just one guy, and there are millions more out there just like him! “, don’t forget the Starfish story.~~   Early one chilly morning, a man was walking along a beach when he noticed a young girl picking up starfish and throwing them back into the ocean. He paused and watched as she methodically bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and gently tossed it back into the waves.  When he asked her why she was doing this, she replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”  The man was puzzled and said, “But there are miles and miles of beach and thousands and thousands of starfish. You can’t possibly

Today is March 24th and it is:World Tuberculosis Day World Tuberculosis Day is a worldwide event that aims to raise public awareness about tuberculosis and the efforts made to prevent and treat this disease. This event is held on March 24 each year and is promoted by organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO). March 24th marks the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch detected the cause of tuberculosis--the TB bacillus. This was a first step towards diagnosing and curing tuberculosis. World Tuberculosis Day can be traced back to 1982, when the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease launched World TB Day on March 24 that year, to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Dr. Koch’s discovery.**********************************************I plan on posting interesting tidbits about each day/date of the calendar.  I hope others will add to it as well.  It can be related to any subject as long as it happened on or is correlated in

If you could start over again. What would you have done?
