New York State Age Bias

I recently received an e-mail touting free community college for New Yorkers aged 25 to 55, even if they already have a degree.

Why stop at age 55? I am age 75, still actively employed and paying taxes, and exploring new career opportunities. I would like to have an associate’s degree in the field I am entering and would appreciate the opportunity to get one from my local community college, but the State of New York has evidently decided that as an older person, I’m not worth the investment, even thou I already have a higher degree, which means that the investment in an AA or AS would be minimal.

I object to NY State denying this privilege to older citizens, whose taxes are probably paying for the bulk of it.

@fkdiver , have you reached out to the folks who made this "decision" in New York? Maybe "suggest" how YOUR IDEA would be funded. Maybe "volunteers" would be willing to TEACH. Not sure about the "rules" for using campus facilities for ADULT classes - but maybe ask. I am sure some form of insurance would be involved. Here in Virginia, as far as I know, FREE classes are available for age 65 and older. I thought about it at age 68, but DIDNOT see anything that caught my interest. GOOD FOR YOU!!! 👍💃🎉🙃
