Looking for simple, no frill appetizer ideas for Election Night watch party.  Just a few people.    Favorite stand by’s, like miniature cocktail sausage pigs-in-crescent-roll-blankets will still make their appearance. As well as the obligatory chips and dip, guac and salsa.  But looking for something new, but not fussy, and easy finger food. Ideas?

Gilded Age, Season 4 Returns tomorrow, November 1, on HBO, and stream on Max. Excellent series, Emmy award winning show. I highly recommend if you get the chance to watch the series.  It’s a historical drama set in the 1880s in NYC.  Excellent cast, amazing period costumes, great story lines. One of my favorites.

Most folks I know give out Halloween candy that they like, in hopes of having leftovers!  I know I do!As a kid I loved Smarties, Snickers and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. I like giving out full bars, because you see and hear the joy from the kids. It’s once a year, and fun.  The neighborhood I’m in is near a school, so getting almost 200 Trick-orTreaters is common here!  I like getting the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups at Sam’s Club, since they have the larger quantities.  Any favorite candies?

I like to have my coffee in the morning

Last night a local AARP manager in PA spoke about aarp pickleball in the area but I do not see of events or clinics anywhere from aarp in our state. What am I missing?

A beautiful fall day, good company, and a little fun with these gentle friends. 🍂🐴 There’s something about being outdoors around horses that always makes me slow down, smile, and enjoy the moment. Life is made up of simple experiences like these.Do you enjoy spending time around horses or being outdoors in the fall?

The Demon of UnawarenessWhile I was waiting to have my bi-weekly blood drawn at the diagnostic lab, I saw for the first time two framed photographic copies of Oahu mountain ridges on the wall to my left.  One of these renditions was realistic; the other one was surrealistic. Regardless of how I related to them, what struck me the most was that I had never noticed the landscapes until today. What a revelation! Most of the time, I pride myself on how much I enjoy art in all of its incarnations, whether it be displayed in a museum or a flea market. From now on, I will prod myself to be more observant of my environment. Who knows what  ah-ah moments that I might appreciate, if not revel in. Despite the horror of it all, I envy Linda Blair’s uncanny ability to simultaneously have grisly 360 degree perspectives at the end of The Exorcist. Or, to be less graphic, you can’t be a fly on the wall unless you can see the wall.

I retired three months ago after a 40‑year career as a lawyer. At first I really enjoyed my retired life, but now it is exactly the opposite; I don’t know what to do. There are so many things and options, but I can’t figure out what would be best for me to do other than sit in front of the TV all day

Hello AARP We totally enjoyed Grown Ups Movie Night 🍿 are there any coming up soon!!!! Thank you Natalie Coy

It was probably in 2019 that I posted a link under “Old People Dancing” to the first video below. Well, Swing and ChaCha with Angie Major, recorded February 10, 2024, have been added to my YouTube account. I do not recommend them as examples of good dancing but as a curiosity/illustration of how dancing, that I started at age 12, is a wonderful, healthful, and fun activity in which one can engage for … well, a many years. Swing with Darlene Bingham Swing with Angie Major ChaCha with Angie Major

Looking for recommendations for dinner (more than pizza/burgers) and some blues music in/around Chicago. Too old to get to rowdy.

“” I want to be the first one at a red light.” ”My funeral is next week so I want to get all my errands done quick.”

After the influx of complaints lately, I thought we could use a few laughs about the subject.     What ones can you find?

Hello everyone. I am an author and writing instructor, and I am curious if anyone out there has ever dreamed of writing/publishing a book. If so, what's the big dream? Become a best-selling author? Publish your book for family and friends? Start a second career as a writer?  Then the next big question, what's stopping your from accomplishing that dream?

Recreation & Good Lifestyle starts with what we eat and how we movePlotshound: If you are looking for easy ideas for Recreation & Good Lifestyle, the documentary The Game Changers (2019) is a great starting point. Directed by Louie Psihoyos and executive produced by James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jackie Chan, the film is available on Netflix and Apple TV.The movie travels from the UFC Octagon in Las Vegas to a strongman gym in Berlin and even to the bushlands of Zimbabwe. It introduces elite athletes, special ops soldiers, scientists, and everyday heroes who are all on a mission to create a shift in the way we eat and live.Instead of focusing on extreme diets, the core message is simple: a lifestyle built around more plants, more movement, and more recovery can support both performance and daily recreation. That fits perfectly with a good lifestyle for all ages, not just pro athletes. What The

While i usually enjoy most of the articles in AARP, "One Day Home Fixes" was a little disingenuous and could actually be dangerous for some people if they took the advice.Jonathan and Drew may be experts in their line of work but to make suggestions based on their parents' situation and apply it to the general population is unwise at best. They would have been better off consulting with a Certified Aging in Place ( CAPS ) specialist, or an Occupational Therapist experienced in home modification.

I found these historic events to be quite interesting, and just wanted to share!  🙂 Notable Events for October 21st:[source: National Day Calendar - October 21 | Birthdays & Events]1774 - The first flag to include the word "Liberty" is flown in Massachusetts.1867 - The Medicine Lodge Treaty is signed Great Plains Indian leaders, relocating the tribes to a reservation in Indian Territory.[While the treaty did relocate some Plains tribes, it's important to note that it was a complex event with significant cultural and historical implications. The treaty process was often fraught with misunderstandings and unequal power dynamics.]1869 - The first shipment of fresh oysters is delivered from Baltimore.1871 - The first amateur outdoor athletic games begin in NY.1879 - Thomas Edison applies for a patent for an incandescent light bulb.1915 - The first radiotelephone message overseas is made from Arlington, VA to Paris, France.[This was a significant milestone, but it's wort

Just read that Season 6 of the PBS Masterpiece series, All Creatures Great and Small, will be airing in early 2026.  Such a relaxing series, and in an absolutely amazing setting.  So well done, but I think most things by PBS tend to be in my opinion.  I’m really looking forward to this new season.  The trials and tribulations, laughter and tears of James Herriot’s beloved veterinary stories have been a childhood favorite of mine.   PBS Series - All Creatures Great and Small - Season 6

As in Musicals, plays, lectures, operas, singers, etc…      I’ve enjoyed Food Network’s, Alton Brown’s stage shows every year for a while.  He makes cooking and science fun!  Always interesting and amusing at the same time! My favorite musical was CATS, which I saw many years ago.I like supporting community theater as well, and our area has a wonderful one at decent prices for their productions.  I’ve seen several plays that I’ve enjoyed there.

I would like to start a sports conversation forum. I am a big Dallas Cowboy fan would like to talk football with others .

Jimmy Kimmel lost his life long friend Cleto the other day. Instead of his standard monologue, he remembered his friend.  Intermittently unable to hold back tears, he brought tears (and laughs) to my eyes as he reviewed the life long friendship he had had with Cleto since age 9. Chronologically revisiting their life together as children, teenagers, and men was one of the most heartfelt eulogies I had ever heard.  Cleto, as a younger man, became somewhat famous regionally as a saxophonist but when Kimmel became nationally famous, he begged the producers to hire his friend as the band leader. They hired him. They even hired Cleto's dad who still is in the Kimmel show's band.  Cleto died young at age 59 and must've been sick because Kimmel thanked a long list of caregivers at the end of the monologue honoring his friend.

I’d like to play several aluminum disc recordings that have been passed down.  They are quite dear to us as they contain a family member singing.  I believe these were recorded in one of those old record-your-voice booths, I think.   I remember as a child, someone trying to play it on a traditional record player with not much luck.  I’ve heard that it can wreck those needles, so don’t want to try. Anyone know of a way to do this, or a way to transfer the recordings professionally by a company.  Thanks!
