The Demon of Unawareness

While I was waiting to have my bi-weekly blood drawn at the diagnostic lab, I saw for the first time two framed photographic copies of Oahu mountain ridges on the wall to my left.  One of these renditions was realistic; the other one was surrealistic. Regardless of how I related to them, what struck me the most was that I had never noticed the landscapes until today. What a revelation! Most of the time, I pride myself on how much I enjoy art in all of its incarnations, whether it be displayed in a museum or a flea market.

From now on, I will prod myself to be more observant of my environment. Who knows what  ah-ah moments that I might appreciate, if not revel in. Despite the horror of it all, I envy Linda Blair’s uncanny ability to simultaneously have grisly 360 degree perspectives at the end of The Exorcist. Or, to be less graphic, you can’t be a fly on the wall unless you can see the wall.
