My third blog in a series featuring instruments in rock and pop music intrinsic to our bodies, following hand clapping and finger snapping, highlights my playlist of whistling prominent in rock and pop songs, along with some instrumental TV and movie themes. Some fantastic songs prominently featuring whistling include Billy Joel’s “The Stranger,” Guns N’ Roses “Patience,” Peter Gabriel’s “Games Without Frontiers,” John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy” and “Beautiful Boy,” Otis Redding’s “Dock Of The Bay,” Paul Simon’s “Me & Julio Down By The Schoolyard,” The J. Geils Band “Centerfold, And there are some songs with short but important whistle use, such as in Steve Miller Band’s “Jungle Love” or The Commodores “Brick House.” And more recent whistlers include Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger,” OneRepublic’s “I Ain’t Worried” and “Good Life,” Foster The People’s “Pumpled Up Kicks,” and Flo Rida’s “Whistle.” And a little country whistling with Beyonce’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” and Zac Brown Band’

I'm excited to share more news about the NORC Self-Help Senior Center, a vibrant community hub located in the basement of 67-00 192 Street, Fresh Meadows, NY. This wonderful center offers a welcoming space for seniors to connect, learn, and thrive. In October, which is just four days away, the center's activities will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Anthony intentionally planned it this way, responding to members' feedback and requests. While everyone enjoys the engaging activities and programs, many have also asked for days to simply come down, hang out, use their laptops, read a book, or socialize with friends. The center has a vast book collection in their big bookcase, making it an ideal spot to unwind and explore new literary horizons. Whether you're looking for fiction, non-fiction, or everything in between, you'll find something that suits your taste. If you need a break from the walls of your apartment, this is the place for you. The NORC Self-Help Senior Cent
Per CNN: "Dame Maggie Smith, one of Britain’s best-known actresses whose long career ranged from starring opposite Laurence Olivier in “Othello” on stage and screen, to roles in “Harry Potter” and “Downton Abbey,” has died, her sons announced in a statement shared by their publicist Clair Dobbs." This is one of the most painful losses for me personally since John Lennon... Thank you, Dame Maggie, for everything you gave us!

Time to put on your thinking caps! 🧠🧢! 😉 Today is 'National States and Capitals Day.' [source: National Day Calendar] Do you know your states and capitals? ➡️ 50 States of the USA [YouTube] September 22 focuses on raising awareness and sharing education about all 50 states and their capitals on National States and Capitals Day. As children, we learn about the 50 states and their capitals in the U.S. But as we get older, we tend to forget those important cities and their role in crafting policy and influencing the economy. And, while everybody knows their own state capital, many do not even remember the capital of the state next door. Today, let's take the time to remind ourselves how important every state and capital is to our nation. Learning about States and Capitals Remember those paper maps we were given to learn about states and capitals? Our worksheet had blank states with star indicating where the capi
My follow-up blog posts featuring instruments in rock and pop music intrinsic to our bodies highlights my second playlist using hands, this time finger snapping rather than hand-clapping, though some songs include both. So in addition to hand clapping to keep rhythm, finger snapping has also found a place over the years in rock and pop music. It gained popularity in tunes of the ‘60s, often Motown hits such as The Temptations’ “My Girl,” The Marvelettes’ “Too Many Fish In The Sea,” inspiring Billy Joel’s 1983 Innocent Man album release celebrating the doo-wop sound of the ‘60s with “Innocent Man” and “Longest Time.” Roger Miller’s ‘60s hit “King Of The Road” spurred Jody Miller’s parody “Queen Of The House” Other songs featuring prominent finger-snaps include Blind Melon’s “No Rain,” Soft Cell’s “Where Did Our Love Go,” David Bowie & Queen’s “Under Pressure,” Wham!’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,”Rickie Lee Jones’ “Chuck E’s In Love,” and Michael Jackson’s “Man In The Mir
