 Hi Everyone!  First time on this forum.As far as rock music goes, I listen a lot to 60's & 70's music. Music, I grew up with.Big Bob Seger fan, along with Grand Funk, The Buckinghams, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, The Ides of March, The Grass Roots, Eagles and many more American acts. Not into the English Invasion.

 Hope everyone is up and about maybe enjoying that first cup of coffee!The thing I like about 60's and 70's music is that it was fun.Take, for instance, my song of the day.SWEET CITY WOMAN by the StampedersThe Stampeders were a Canadian Pop-Rock Group from the early 70's'This song was their only hit.It was released in September 1971 and reached #8 on the Billboard charts.Now, think, how many pop-rock songs start out with a strumming banjo and mention macaroon cookies in the lyrics? The Blues Those songs about the Blues.  Do you know some?     

At 72 years old, I want one last experience with a band I love... I can't go solo due to mobility issues. I've asked my daughters (who experienced 1-Oct 2017) and their partners and my friend and hopefully will get the tickets the minute they go on sale. What say you, AARP Friends? Good choice? Advise, helpful tips?

  Lynyrd Skynyrd, Alabama, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Allman Brothers Band, ZZ Top, Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels Band, 38 Special,  New Riders of the Purple Sage, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Eagles and so many more were considered Country Rock.   Nowadays, some country songs are barely distinguishable from rock and other bands have continued the country rock genre. Post your old favorites and newer ones you have found that you enjoy. What songs tell a story about historic events, places or people.  I'll start with a true favorite: Roads to Moscow- Al StewartFrom his 1973 Past, Present and Future album This song tells the story of the German invasion of Russia in WWII. Each verse  beautifully captures the different aspects of the conflict as seen through the eyes of a Russian soldier. When you listen, you can almost see the aspects of the campaign happening.

Many songwriters are inspired to write from events that happened to them or their band members. What are some that you know?  "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple -- written about the fire at the Montreux Switzerland, Frank Zappa concert, that Deep Purple's members were in the audience and they got safely out to a nearby restaurant and watched the smoke gather across Lake Geneva.
