Music

There’s something about music and cars - a match made in Heaven. As a teen cruising in my ride (a ’72 VW Beetle), back before digital media and streaming, I’d be listen to tunes mostly on the radio, beholden to the DJs and what they’d play. Rotating through my preset stations, usually WCCC, “The Rock”, WHCN, “The River” famous for album oriented rock, rock blocks, and double shots, and WPLR out of New Haven, I’d search for the best song in the moment. And now and then, I’d stumble upon a song that would instantly inspire a spontaneous right hand to the volume knob, spinning it clockwise to crank up the volume. So what better inspiration for a playlist than songs that made me, over the years, as Autograph wails in the refrain of their song, “turn up the radio.” Obviously some band and albums inspire cranking up the volume, like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Guns N Roses, hair metal, etc. But I’m talking about individual songs that back before streaming, in the car or at home, would make you

Hi Everyone!  First time on this forum. As far as rock music goes, I listen a lot to 60's & 70's music. Music, I grew up with.Big Bob Seger fan, along with Grand Funk, The Buckinghams, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, The Ides of March, The Grass Roots, Eagles and many more American acts. Not into the English Invasion.

Hope everyone is up and about maybe enjoying that first cup of coffee! The thing I like about 60's and 70's music is that it was fun.Take, for instance, my song of the day.SWEET CITY WOMAN by the StampedersThe Stampeders were a Canadian Pop-Rock Group from the early 70's'This song was their only hit.It was released in September 1971 and reached #8 on the Billboard charts. Now, think, how many pop-rock songs start out with a strumming banjo and mention macaroon cookies in the lyrics? Fun, right?Music tip of the day - check out the You Tube site, cozyhollow. great songs, nice videos. Here all day.  Joe

At 72 years old, I want one last experience with a band I love... I can't go solo due to mobility issues. I've asked my daughters (who experienced 1-Oct 2017) and their partners and my friend and hopefully will get the tickets the minute they go on sale. What say you, AARP Friends? Good choice? Advise, helpful tips?

Many songwriters are inspired to write from events that happened to them or their band members. What are some that you know?  "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple -- written about the fire at the Montreux Switzerland, Frank Zappa concert, that Deep Purple's members were in the audience and they got safely out to a nearby restaurant and watched the smoke gather across Lake Geneva.

Name a song that honors Mother Nature! I'd like to start with: Here Comes The Sun 🌄
