Hi, I have 3 cats and a stray who stops by sometimes. I live in Tucson, Arizona, and am a retired teacher. I don't think of myself as a teacher, though, and haven't stepped foot in a classroom since I retired 4 years ago. I like reading and gardening. I majored in Painting and Drawing, but now I'm doing pottery. I enjoy going to art openings and craft festivals. Right now, I'm reading, "The New Tourist" by Paige McClanahan. It discusses the "Hippie Trail", which I caught the tail end of, after Iran put an end to the "Magic Bus". I tried a couple of cruises, but would never again participate in that awful, environment-destroying industry again. If there is anyone out there who can relate to me, I would love to hear from you. Roberta

Good morning to all-I am an AARP member along with my wife. We are retired schoolteachers- I spent nearly forty years in front of various classes from kindergarten to college levels. For the past twenty or so years I have been a writer for various outdoor and rural living magazines, and when I'm not sitting in front of this screen typing and scratching a cat's ears, I will be outside either working in the garden, fishing from my kayak or flying one of my little radio-controlled airplanes or drones.I was on another senior-oriented forum for a while, but the politics and the heated and usually vitriolic nature of that place persuaded me to find another place to go and read about what's going on in the world. I hope this forum is more civilized.I live on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, and I must say that we missed the effects of Hurricane Francine- and glad I am to say that.I look forward to conversing with you all here. you all be safe and keep well- Ed

I was looking for an online community to meet people, make friends and nurture platonic friendships. As an AARP member, I found a friendly and welcoming online community that I would like to introduce to others. What better way to do this than by promoting regular human connection through virtual pen pal friendships? You are invited to join this discussion so we can work together to find innovative ways to wipe out loneliness.
Looking for a very conscientious female health and wellness accountability partner. I am reliable and good at motivating. No cost and either direction. Perhaps daily and weekly check-ins or whatever you would like. I'm looking to lose about 20 lb and double my daily intake of steps and become consistent about weight lifting, stretching, meditation and general well-being and eating vegetables fruits, smaller portions and more high quality protein. Its helps that I love country music.I want to get involved in the community and would love to hear any suggestions or experiences you have had that I might explore.I'm 64 active and still work. I was born in Texas, lived there (with a year out in Florida & one in Ohio) until I was 15, then moved to California, where I went to high school and started work in the title insurance world after working in grocery stores from 14 to 18. Drafted at age 23, spent most of my two years at Fort Ord after MP school in Georgia. I eventually went to college, majored in English Lit and started writing poetry, still do that today. Moved to Oregon many years ago and would not want to live anywhere else. I worked in the title business for what seems like a lifetime and am enjoying retirement here in Oregon with my wife. I read a lot, like jazz and oldies, good movies and watch a lot of English & Aussie crime shows.
