Many of the residents at the last nursing/rehab facility that I attended (marking my sixth month recovery from intestinal surgeries) had strange habits. One woman spoke gibberish to her imaginary friends while she obsessively stroked every hair of her beloved, bedraggled dog-eared teddy bear. Another woman devoted much of her time methodically embracing two stuffed animals from The Lion King, Simba and Kiara. She didn’t talk to them. Instead, she groomed them with precise strokes.I, on the other hand, was proud to have more constructive things to do: checking a few news websites, following the baseball playoffs, watching thrillers on Netflix, and reading historical romance novels. But last week I had an epiphany. At one point in my stay at Queen’s hospital, I was blessed with two stuffed animals; one represented courage and the other, gratitude. Occasionally I latched onto them with the fervor displayed by the two women who doted on their stuffed animals. I am not asha

CBD oil is legal in all 50 states because it is made from the hemp plant. CBC oil does not contain mind altering THC chemical found in cannabis. I recently discovered the value of taking a few drops of CBD oil under my tongue prior to going to bed. As a result of using about 5 mg., I go to sleep quicker and have less pain due to arthritis next day. I was wondering if other AARP members are using CBD oil for their health? For those who do use CBD oil, what has been your results?
FROM THE ARTICLE - SEE ARTICLE FOR MORE!!! Is Your Doctor’s Age Bias Making Your High Blood Pressure Worse? The undertreatment of hypertension in older adults could have serious health consequences. By Kimberly Hayes, AARP. Published October 10, 2024. Older adults are more likely than younger people to have high blood pressure and suffer from serious health conditions that can be caused or worsened by hypertension, such as heart disease and stroke. But research suggests that high blood pressure in older patients often isn’t being treated as aggressively as it should be. A Harvard study found that more than 70 percent of older Americans who need more intensive treatment for high blood pressure aren’t receiving it, and some health experts say they think age bias could play a role in those decisions. The assumption by doctors that high blood pressure is inevitable after a certain age, and concerns about side effects of lower blood pressures on older people,

I understand the AARP Community Guidelines, but I have to question why a discussion such as the disrespect, physical and mental assault of Tyreek Hill cannot be a discussion? This was all-out racism, based on Miami-Dade County body-worn camera videos released, imo. But, others may view it differently, so I'd like to have opinions. So my question is how can we discuss this safely if not on AARP? I get it; leave politics out of it; but please give us a space to discuss major issues, please?

Hi everyone! I’ve noticed more and more people are curious about using CBD or cannabis for wellness, but one big question still comes up—how do you talk to your doctor about it? It can feel a little intimidating, especially if you’re unsure how they’ll respond or don’t know what to ask. I recently did some research and found that starting the conversation with your healthcare provider can make all the difference in feeling confident about your choices. Whether it’s for pain, sleep, or anxiety, your doctor can help guide you to safe and effective options that work with your existing medications or health conditions. I’d love to hear from anyone who has brought this up with their doctor—what did they say? Was it an easy conversation, or did you have to push for more info? For your viewing pleasure and mental stimulation here's a 30 minute episode of The Open Mind on PBS: https://www.pbs.org/video/the-pursuit-of-tranquility-how-many-times-do-you-need-to-blow-up-the-world-rvjpi1/ : Disclaimer: While the topic sometimes requires political references, this is not a political statement. It is a socio-cultural evaluation of the futility of embracing WMDs. There is one (IMHO) flaw. The moderator and guest make reference to humanity's ability to "destroy the Earth"....Seems arrogant to me. We may destroy ourselves and wipe out most life on the planet, but we will not destroy the entire planet and it will eventually recover. Might even come back resembling the planet in the movie After Earth.
