👴‌‌‌‌👵‌‌   Grieving in OLD AGE is uniquely challenging due to accumulated loss — often called BEREAVEMENT OVERLOAD. It’s a whole-body experience extending beyond losing loved ones to include grief over declining health, independence, and shifting identities. Isolation worsens this, making ACTIVE SELF-CARE, community connection, and PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT absolutely vital.

‌➡️‌[*** If you know a Senior who is "grieving", please CHECK on them daily. If you are a Senior who is GRIEVING, please "reach out" to let the CARING folks in your life KNOW you need them. My daughter CHECKS on me daily. ‌💛‌‌🤗

📌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌   Make a MEMORY blanket, teddy or cushions out of YOUR loved ones’ clothes.

*** Something to "snuggle" up with on those "sleepless" nights or when the "tears" arrive. ‌

🪧    Try to maintain YOUR hobbies and interests.

There’s comfort in routine and getting back to the activities that bring you joy and connect you closer to others can help you come to terms with your loss and aid the grieving process.

*** Maybe try something NEW.

🎵‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌🎶‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌   Compile a list of YOUR loved ones’ favorite songs or music. Include songs that evoke happy memories and songs that soothe YOU and bring you COMFORT.

*** An excellent way to "relax" or "exercise".

Barney @BarneyL32954 , you are welcome my friend!!!

Luv,

Nicole 🤗🤗🤗 (Grief Forum)

➡️[*** BARNEY POSTED - Thanks, Nicole. I just shifted our AARP account to my name as primary - a nice lady helped me in the chat window, Carolyn. You can imagine how long a to-do list of cancellations, shifts etc. anyone in today’s world faces in the wake of such a loss. Especially when you respectfully called your wife “the Banker”;-)

Dear Barney @BarneyL32954 , thank you SO MUCH for stopping by to "share" with us!!!

I am sorry for your loss & glad you are dealing the best you can.

I am sure YOUR POST will help someone "cope" with their loss too.

Grief is a part of life I "feel" & while we NEVER want to experience it - we have to.

Luv,

Nicole 🤗🤗🤗 (Grief Forum)

➡️[*** BARNEY POSTED -

I lost my dear wife of 43 years nearly a month ago. I am doing OK, considering. I tell folks (I ‘crack wise’ always, lately to defeat the cries) that I’m the luckiest/most blessed guy on Earth, as she’s out of the pain and extreme weakness that hit hard during 6 months of the cancer and chemotherapy. How much to attribute to each is the kind of 20/20 hindsight I hope to avoid, for my sanity’s sake.

When folks tell me they are “sorry for my loss,” I say I am grateful for God’s gain - if she makes HIM half as happy as she made me all those years, the stars will shine even brighter in the heavens.

BTW, I do heartily recommend to all the new Sara Bareilles album, called: “Good Grief.” Especially the song, “Forever.” It made me cry, in a good way!
