What to Expect During the Transition

We're excited to bring you a new AARP Online Community experience. As we prepare for the transition, here's what you can expect over the coming weeks.

Before the Launch

You can continue to browse, read, and participate in the Online Community as you do today.

Any new posts, replies, or kudos added to the current community after August 5 at 11:59 p.m. ET will not transfer to the new AARP Online Community.

Community Content

Topics that haven't had any activity in the past three years have been archived and will not be transferred.

During the Transition

Before the new AARP Online Community launches, the current community will be temporarily unavailable while we complete the transition.

We expect to launch the new AARP Online Community shortly after August 5. We will communicate the confirmed launch date as soon as it is finalized and will provide advance notice of the temporary downtime associated with the transition.

After Launch

When the new AARP Online Community launches, you'll continue signing in with your existing AARP account.

Your username, profile information, profile photo, discussions, posts, and most community content will be waiting for you.

You'll also notice a few changes, including:

  • Simplified community categories.
  • Friends becoming Followers, with the ability to see who is following you.
  • An updated community ranking system.
  • A few items will not be transferred, including private messages, photo albums and the photos stored in them, favorites, notification preferences, subscriptions, and unpublished drafts.

Have Questions?

We've created a list of frequently asked questions to help you prepare for the transition, including details about what will transfer, what's changing, and what to expect before and after launch.

AARP Sandy @sandy , AARP Teri @AARPTeri , AARP Darryl @DarrylL35959 - I have started to "notice" ALOT of DUPLICATED "posts/threads".

NOT an "expert" or claim to know WHY - but I "feel" the DELAY in a "poster" being able to SEE THEIR MATERIAL ON THE SITE the 1st time is causing "some" members to keep posting until they do SEE THEIR MATETIAL.

**** Is this "fixable" so we DECREASE these duplication(s)? If NOT, not a big deal.

Thanks,

Nicole 💛🤗

Hi @SummerOnTheWay1

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. While we can't speak to the cause of duplicate posts, we do remove duplicates whenever we come across them. If you notice any duplicate posts that may have been missed, feel free to let us know and we'll be happy to take a look.

As a friendly reminder, after submitting a post, please give it a moment before posting again. A little patience can help prevent accidental duplicate posts and keep the community organized for everyone.

Thanks for helping make the AARP Online Community a great place for all members! 😊

The duplicate postings are caused by the delay your new format has in posting a new post that a user makes. This is no fault of the poster, the fault is in your new format. coders should be able to fix this. Another thing on this: If the ‘delete’ option were to be added (with no time limit), a poster could go back and delete duplicate or wrong postings, and we need that option to be added. Can you get his done?

In the song title word groups you need to add a ‘DELETE option to the ‘Three Dots’ drop-down box after a new posting is made.

I agree!   Their answer got lost in the thread from yesterday @ChasKy53.   It’s in the thread yesterday that talks about the transition.  Actually this thread, lol!  Just realized

We were told that there would be an edit and a delete function we could do within an hour.   That is no longer true.  We can only edit.  There will be no delete feature.  And we were told that if we need a post deleted, we’d need to contact the Mod.  So I’ve opted to put the words DELETED in the post instead.  Otherwise I’d be contacting the mod several times in the song thread!

Seems that the Mods and AARP are not listening to all of us. They should have done a ‘BETA’ trial run so they could have corrected these things before they launched the new format. I can’t even turn of ‘notifications’ of postings, so my email box gets full of email notifications of every post that others make in these forums. It is truly aggravating. I am not a member of AARP because of these things. I think that they require us to be members to have the ability to turn off notifications and that simply sucks.

Hey @ChasKy53 , just my 1/2 cent on what I was told by AARP. Apparently with us "deleting" our posts/threads, it "messes" up what appears in the SEARCH ENGINES. Not saying I am okay with them "deciding" to REMOVE us being able to "delete" within 60 minutes. But as we all know, they are going to do things THEIR way. We have lost ALOT of "old timers" because of this NEW SETUP. But as the saying goes, treasure the past, but move on. I do miss the FUN & CONNECTIONS we use to have here (AARP Community Board). 😞 Take care, Nicole!

➡️[*** CHAS POSTED - There needs to be no time limit on both editing and deleting posts in the song title groups.

LOL, took "forever" to find your LAST COMMENT @ChasKy53 !!! 😂

Yes my friend, we have 60 MINUTES to "edit". 🙄

➡️[*** CHAS POSTED - Unfortunately, the ‘EDIT’ feature also has a time limit on it. I have tried to edit a duplicate posting by trying to type ‘deleted’ in place of the original duplicate posting, but it simply says ‘error has occurred’ rather than letting me post it because the time limit has expired. This all needs fixed and I don’t know that they will ever change it.
