It has been more than a decade since I was last active on AARP Community. During my absence I managed to stay busy; occupied with my sons and their family, attending book clubs, writing reviews, posting commentary on news journals, and I also began painting with acrylics. During ten of those years, I lived in a senior community where I enjoyed the amenities and socializing with other seniors from diverse backgrounds. Then, five years ago, my sons pressured me to move to be closer to them. Although my new home is in a very nice building, the amenities and activities are for the majority of residents who are gen x and millennial professionals. I am among only a handful of seniors who reside here.  I no longer travel as often, and I have very little social interaction with anyone, except when family visits.  As such, I spend too much time alone. Hello all,I’m Bill, 68, lately retired from a life in mechanical engineering and settled in Southern California. Most days you’ll find me tinkering with a black 1965 Corvette Stingray that still sports its original 327, although the carburetor wheezes almost as loudly as I did before I beat colon cancer a few years back. I juggle the car project with visits from three grown kids and four lively grandkids, so progress comes in short spurts. My goal is a reliable Sunday cruiser, not a museum queen.  Rod Serling was a genius writer of science fiction. His "twist at the end" of his stories are unmatched by today's writers.  This weekend, one of our cable channels is having a Twilight Zone marathon. Between the marathon and thinking about Rod Serling, I thought about what was my favorite "twist at the end". Here goes.....Hint: A decoding translator runs to stop her co-worker from boarding an alien spaceship screaming......."TO SERVE MAN"......."IT'S, IT'S A COOKBOOK". But it is too late........... When you aren't having to listen to commercials about hearing aids, drugs for the elderly(me included), or automobiles.....there are some funny ones out there. Many of the funniest are pretty aged themselves by now. My two favorites are(1) K-Mart's "I SHIPPED MY PANTS" commercial. I about did what you think they said when I heard that commercial the first time. You can google "kmart shipped my pants commercial" and get to it.(2) The second funniest commercial was a Japanese commercial for bath soap. It has a communal bath of young boys washing themselves with this bath soap with military type music in the background, when they finish, they turn around and stare at the camera and there is a surprise ending that will make you laugh out loud as we say today( I will give you a hint: It has to do with water and bubbles in the water) . Anyone have this problem?Moved into new apartment and need a few things. Problem is much furniture needs assembly and most places no longer offer this service - even when you're willing to pay to have it done. They just drop ship to your address - no unpacking, no carrying it into your home - nada!Hiring someone poses another problem: If that person doesn't do it correctly or damages it, you have no real recourse since the worker is not a store employee.Since I have no children and am new to this area I have no circle of friends to help.I'm curious how others are handling similar situation? Thanks for any advice.

Hey Folks, How are we going to know what is real? Was what I just wrote…was it written by a machine? Is the movie star on screen real or an image generated by a machine? Will the images on our newscasts be true to reality? Will war be fought through analysis by humans or machine? Scary!!!

But what do they spend their money on?               A STUPID YACHT BIGGER THAN EVERY OTHER PERSON'S YACHT  Spending upwards of $400,000,000 to as much as $4,800,000,000, these people are nothing but narcissists whose main goal is to outdo their contemporaries.  Imagine what good that kind of money would do if re-directed to help those in need. MAYBE THOSE WHO PAY FOR THESE YACHTS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE CHARITY OF THEIR CHOICE IN A LIKE AMOUNT OF MONEY AS PART OF THE PURCHASE PRICE OF THE YACHT BEFORE THEY CAST OFF

I was trying to post a reply to the Front Porch - June 2025 thread, when I got the message Access Denied.  When I went back, I saw the thread/subject was gone, disappeared, nada, like it never existed. Glitch?  Or just permanently deleted?

Normally, How Much Data Do You Use In A Month on Your Cell Plan? Are you on a plan where you can carry some of your allowance over to the next month? If you don’t use that much data is it because you use your own WiFi or Hot Spot more? I rarely use any data but that’s because I do not travel around much at all - most everything I do is WiFi connected - so data usage is minimal.  It maybe different for others - I am just a home body most of the time.  And I carry over the majority of my data plan to the next month just in case I need it.   But it is almost time that I start looking for a new phone - Apple will stop support of certain models this year and next - think mine is next year.   Then I will evaluate a new plan to see if there are any others better suited for what I do - don’t think that is gonna change drastically anytime soon.  I cannot think of any scenario where I am gonna need more data allowance unless there is something that I
