Hello and Happy Friday and last weekend of Summer! Earlier this month, we added another ACE to our roster so I wanted to introduce them to everyone! A member of the community for about a year and a half, KellyS503189 spends a lot of her community time contributing in AARP Rewards Redemption forum! She hit that magic age and decided to join AARP! Say Hello!
Any advice - I need to make a tough decision to either move with my adult daughter & my 2 grandchildren to a “multi generational home” or go myself to an over 55 community. The community has lots of activities, but many of them I can no longer do because of physical limitations (I am only 65, but walking is limited). I feel like I would have a better chance to meet people & make friends in the community, but it could be hard because I can’t do a lot. I don’t want to move there & end up sitting in a house all alone.
Live in California and this year is truly hot! 103 Inland Valley. We have not had a lot of fires as in the past so grateful for that. Tomorrow my little granddaughter turns 6 and my son and I are taking her to Disneyland she is so excited. I have my umbrella, sunscreen, spray bottle, mosquito spray and my visor,. Renting a scooter at my age it really helps. Have a Great Day! S.
Good morning to all-I am an AARP member along with my wife. We are retired schoolteachers- I spent nearly forty years in front of various classes from kindergarten to college levels. For the past twenty or so years I have been a writer for various outdoor and rural living magazines, and when I'm not sitting in front of this screen typing and scratching a cat's ears, I will be outside either working in the garden, fishing from my kayak or flying one of my little radio-controlled airplanes or drones.I was on another senior-oriented forum for a while, but the politics and the heated and usually vitriolic nature of that place persuaded me to find another place to go and read about what's going on in the world. I hope this forum is more civilized.I live on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, and I must say that we missed the effects of Hurricane Francine- and glad I am to say that.I look forward to conversing with you all here. you all be safe and keep well- Ed
FROM THE ARTICLE - SEE ARTICLE FOR MORE!!! 5 Easy Ways to Transition Your Wardrobe Into Fall. A little layering and some darker hues and textures help announce the arrival of a new season. By Cindy Weber-Cleary, AARP. Published September 09, 2024. The Fashion Week runway shows started in New York last week. When I used to attend them as a magazine editor, I sometimes found it challenging to figure out what to wear. After all, the weather was usually still hot and summery, but many fashionistas felt pressure to be wearing new clothes from the upcoming fall season — like little kids wanting to wear a brand-new outfit for the first day of school. In my opinion, it makes more sense to dress for the weather, but if you are feeling the urge to get your September vibe on right away, here are five easy tricks. https://www.aarp.org/entertainment/style-trends/info-2024/fall-transition-outfits-clothes-fashion.html

I just got a link from an AARP Livable e-mail, for an article about "Elder Orphans". The article contained a link to a closed Facebook group for us. If you request to join the group, a 3-item questionnaire pops up, asking your age, marital status, and status regarding children. Then you have to wait for the administrator to check it out & approve you. It should be interesting to see what information they provide, and what the conversations are about.
I here to be a friend and companion to any gentleman who is looking for the same you can reply to this reply.
Anyone around to chat?
GRATEFUL I AM RETIRED = LESS GAS USED 💃💃💃 You won’t feel much relief but there are some categories where prices are coming down. By Donna Fuscaldo. Published January 11, 2024. https://www.aarp.org/money/budgeting-saving/info-2024/consumer-product-prices-falling.html
So many people say, "Why aren't you on Facebook?" I get less kind versions of that question too! 🙄😲 It just seems like one more thing to "manage" in my life. Also, one more way to get identity thief issues. I communicate with my family and small intimate circle of friends fine without it. Christine
Hey everyone. Things are good here and I finally got my Christmas present. I got to see one of my favorite bands CREED for the first time on Friday. They were freaking awesome especially Scott Stapp. He has still got it and I know some are not going to agree with me but I think he is sexy and looked incredibly HOT. My husband has been gone 18 months now but, I had a big smile on my face and singing along. I went with my daughter and son in law which made it more special. Plus, my daughter videoed my favorite song so I have that memory with me always. Love to you all. ❤️❤️❤️

Hello AARP Online Community I received this message from AARP Connect to Affect and thought I would share. https://connect2affect.org/why-friends-are-important/ I spent a lot of time working and raising families and not much time making friends. They mentioned three types of friends. I've got a lot of catching up to do! What kind of friends are you looking for? FRIENDS WHO GIVE YOU EMOTIONAL SUPPORTWhen you’re feeling down or going through a hard time, talking things over with a supportive friend can make a real difference to your mental health. What does emotional support feel like? Your friend makes you feel heard and acknowledges your point of view. Often referred to as a good listener, someone to lean on, or a sounding board, friends who express empathy are invaluable to our emotional well-being.FRIENDS WHO GIVE YOU HELPFUL ADVICEHaving a buddy you can talk to when making a big decision or need some practical pointers on say, using video chat, can help you stay
Be weather aware for any alerts in your areas!! This is the time of year for much of the country to stay alert to weather changes that affect your areas, or where you might be heading to, or for any loved ones & friends....especially those who are more vulnerable to risks. Today there are many parts of the country that are most at risk. A friend in Nashville, where I visits often, is quite worried & wanted me to stay in touch, or be able to respond to her calls. The whole Mid-state areas of Kentucky & Tennessee are on high alert. Many confirmed tornadoes have already touched down with more dangerous, long track & possibly widespread severe outbreaks are possible All storm modes are in effect! Remain weather aware and have ways to receive warning!
Hello, Looking forward to sharing and learning. Not yet at retirement age, but want to do embrace it full on. Many thanksLilith.
I can see some usefulness to these AI apps but it is worrisome in many ways too.Artificial Intelligence Chatbots - People can now chat with interactive AI versions of their deceased loved ones thanks to a new app. It works by storing people’s pre-recorded life stories and presenting them in a conversational format. Axios - 07/13/2022 New AI tools let you chat with your dead relativesAll I can say is WOW ! Should I start recording now?😯
No posts on the northern lights show this weekend, I'm surprised. Seems like the folks in the South got a bit better show. Was out till nearly 2 AM Saturday morning looking over cloud free Lake Erie. Greyish vertical bands visible, not dancing, but slowly changing, & once made a nearly perfect arch across the sky at a lower angle. Looking through a phone (possibly a camera) in night mode was bringing out the colors... some were nice enough to show me.
I was looking for an online community to meet people, make friends and nurture platonic friendships. As an AARP member, I found a friendly and welcoming online community that I would like to introduce to others. What better way to do this than by promoting regular human connection through virtual pen pal friendships? You are invited to join this discussion so we can work together to find innovative ways to wipe out loneliness.
Looking for a very conscientious female health and wellness accountability partner. I am reliable and good at motivating. No cost and either direction. Perhaps daily and weekly check-ins or whatever you would like. I'm looking to lose about 20 lb and double my daily intake of steps and become consistent about weight lifting, stretching, meditation and general well-being and eating vegetables fruits, smaller portions and more high quality protein. Fun and upbeat. I totally believe in accountability. Looking for a motivated and consistent female partner.
