Stressors/Pressures of Everyday Life
As I’m coming to two years of the worst times of my life, both personally and professionally, I’ve noticed there are a lot of rock songs out there that deal with the Stressors/Pressures of everyday life. I thought it would be a great topic to explore. Songs with pressure in the title are obvious, but I’m hoping this will bring out other, more subtle songs that address these issues. I will start with one of my all time favorites in this area-

War by Edwin Starr
"It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
(War) it's got one friend that's the undertaker
Oh, war has shattered many a young mans dreams
Made him disabled, bitter and mean
Life is much too short and precious
To spend fighting wars these days
War can't give life
It can only take it away"......

@BeatleloverKT wrote:Peacekeeper by Fleetwood Mac
"We make all of our suns the same
Every one will suffer the fire we've made
They all explode just the same
And there's no going back on the plans we've made"......
Love that one!

I'm just a singer (In a rock and roll band) by the Moody Blues
"How can we understand
Riots by the people for the people
Who are only destroying themselves
And when you see a frightened person
who is frightened by the people who are
scorching this earth, scorching this earth".......

"Eat for Two" by 10,000 Maniacs
"When the boy was a boy, the girl was a girl, they found each other in a wicked world
Strong in some respects, but she couldn't stand for the way he begged and gave in
Pride is for men; young girls should run and hide instead
Risk the game by taking dares with "yes"
Eat for two, walk for two, breathe for two now"

And there were all of those tragedy songs that became so popular in the early 60's. Listening to the radio could get down right depressing! Thank goodness The Beatles came along in '64 and changed all of that. They were a sorely needed breath of fresh air. No wonder we still love them!

Hey you by Pink Floyd
"Hey you, out there in the cold
Getting lonely, getting old
Can you feel me
Hey you, standing in the aisles
With itchy feet and fading smiles
Can you feel me?
Hey you, don't help them to bury the light
Don't give in without a fight"......

Get Over It - Eagles
From a different perspective, this song is Don Henley's rant about people who go on daytime talk shows, complain about everything that's wrong in their lives, blame everyone else, and take no responsibility. Get over it!
