Stressors/Pressures of Everyday Life

As I’m coming to two years of the worst times of my life, both personally and professionally, I’ve noticed there are a lot of rock songs out there that deal with the Stressors/Pressures of everyday life. I thought it would be a great topic to explore. Songs with pressure in the title are obvious, but I’m hoping this will bring out other, more subtle songs that address these issues. I will start with one of my all time favorites in this area-

”We gotta get out of this place” by The Animals

"Alone Again (Naturally)"  by Gilbert O'Sullivan

"Looking back over the years
And whatever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears
And at sixty-five years old
My mother, God rest her soul
Couldn't understand why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken
Leaving her to start with a heart so badly broken
Despite encouragement from me
No words were ever spoken
And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day
Alone again, naturally
Alone again, naturally"

Ain't no good life by Lynyrd Skynyrd

"Ain't no good life

Not the one that I lead

'Cause the more I fight the sadness, yeah

It only seems the more that I grieve

Well I look back on the good times

As some lost part of me

I want to know, tell me why it is so

Well just because I don't pray

Lord, that doesn't mean I ain't forgiven

Just 'cause I'm alive

That don't mean I'm makin' a livin"......

Awaiting on you all by George Harrison

"You don't need no love in

You don't need no bed pan

You don't need a horoscope or a microscope

To see the mess that you're in

If you open up your heart

You will know what I mean

We've  been polluted for so long

Now here's a way for you to get clean"......

My first thought was "Can't Get No Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones.

Crawling by Linkin Park. A song about the pull of things out of your control that makes you feel like you're crawling in your own skin. They kind of scream a bit  but the message comes through loud and clear

I Can Never Go Home Anymore: Shangri-Las (the pressures and stresses of the mother-daughter relationship led this daughter to make a now-regretted decision).

Great choice!! One of my favorite singing groups. All that drama! Shadow Morton was a genius. I saw them A LOT when I was a teen. I once went to see them open for the Beach Boys and left after The Shangri-Las finished their set (I loved the BB, but I'd seen them the month before).

I also like SIXTEEN TONS by Tennesee Ernie Ford and WE GOTTA GET OUT OF THIS PLACE by the Animals plus WORKING IN THE COAL MINE by Lee Dorsey.

They all have great beats and lyric although from 3 different decades.

They were before my time or I was very young.

Oldies but Goodies - just like we AARP folks!
