Songs about Prayer and/Religion
After checking thru all our topics, I could not find one about songs about prayer and religion. There are, I think, a lot of rock songs out there that fall into this category. The song can have it in the title or in a verse, talking about prayer or religion. We should have fun with this! I will start with a fav of mine:

Bright Blue Rose - Mary Black
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-vlb9w8SSY
It's a very beautiful song written by Jimmy MacCarthy, and sung by Mary Black. Both are known for their contributions to contemporary Irish folk music. Have a tissue handy, as you might need it.

"Gospel Changes" by John Denver
"Jesus, He did not doubt His gift
Though He knew that He had not long to live
He took care of the business
Teaching us how to fly
Then He bowed His head
And laid down to die"

"My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison
"I really want to see you
Really want to be with you
Really want to see you, Lord
But it takes so long, my Lord."

Two views on similar themes of "God's country" and what it means to different people:
The first is based on rural American culture and it's deep spiritual roots. https://www.songfacts.com/facts/blake-shelton/gods-country
God's Country - Blake Shelton
Right outside of this one church town
There's a gold dirt road to a whole lot of nothin'
Got a deed to the land, but it ain't my ground
This is God's country
We pray for rain, and thank Him when it's fallen
'Cause it brings a grain and a little bit of money
We put it back in the plate
I guess that's why they call it God's country
By contrast, the second is Bono's view of American culture, inspired by the Statue of Liberty in NYC, and concerned that not everyone had equal opportunity to live the American Dream. https://www.songfacts.com/facts/u2/in-gods-country
In God's Country - U2
Sleep comes like a drug
In God's country
Sad eyes, crooked crosses
In God's country

All Those Years Ago - George Harrison
I send out a prayer to you
Now in the world of light
Where the spirit free of lies
And all else that we despised
He's the only reason we exist

Here's one that might surprise some folks. Years and years ago there was a Christian rock metal song by, believe it or not, Black Sabbath, called After Forever. It is about the singer finding God and when he gets to that part it is great. The music is really metal and loud and even hurts my hair and my eyelashes but the second half of the song has some inspirational lyrics.
