AARP Hearing Center
Does anyone have any new insight into whether United Healthcare has plans to expand its UHICA business to additional states? UHICA is just United Healthcare Medigap without the wellness extras (like gym), and it is currently offered in just 14 states: Arkansas, Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
At the moment it appears to be just the opposite. Here in TX they no longer offer the version without the wellness extras for new clients. On some of the retirement forums, like bogleheads, several people are reporting similar in other states. My wife bought her part G plan a year ago and pays $125. Only the G+Wellness will be available for me when I sign up in a few weeks and it's running over $170. The concern is always about "closed books" aka "deadpooled" plans that raise rates, then customers end up with mediccal issues which prevent them from passing underwriting to switch plans.
Thanks for the tip on Bogleheads. I've done months of research to narrow down my decision, and this is one resource I had not come across. Looking at the comments, these people have done exactly the same research in the SERFF database that I have!
