Error in AARP Bulletin Article: What you'll pay out of pocket on Medicare?

All: I was just reading the Oct 2024 AARP Bulletin Article pgs 24-25: What you'll pay out of pocket on Medicare by Brandy Bauer. In 2 of the 4 scenarios, with Original Medicare your out of pocket expenses are less than if you have Original Medicare plus part D plus Medicare Supplement. This does not make sense that you would pay less out of pocket if you have the 2 extra coverages. Please explain.

    Because you are paying more in premiums to have that extra coverage.  You pay those premiums even if you didn’t incur the medical expenses.
