Wonders Never Cease in Waikiki

Yesterday while I was driving adjacent to a golf course, I saw a young man artfully maneuvering (to a tee) on a motorized skateboard. With spot-on precision, he weaved between crowds that were ambling and milling about on narrow sidewalks. But what impressed me the most was his graceful, undulating, and soul hand movements that reminded me of the soulful gestures of an orchestral conductor. Who knows? Perhaps through his ear buds, he was moved by a symphonic adagio. Because I was slowed down in a lot of traffic, I was able to have a few extra moments marveling at this elegant skateboarding maestro.

Just before I reached my Leisure Heritage condo, I was struck by another unexpected sight. A seven-foot man and his partner, a five-foot woman, lined up at a bus stop. The contrast was stunning. The young lady’s neck muscles must get a workout whenever she looks up at her mate, unless she can equalize their stature. There is at least one way to combat their extreme height difference: have stool, will travel. Par for the course, eh?

Later on in the day at the grocery store, I was taken aback when I saw a scrawny, tattered middle-aged man approach the restroom that I had just left. Before he entered it, he crossed himself. God knows what discomfort or even danger he anticipated in the toilet. I didn’t follow him to check out what kind of dire situation awaited the poor man. I hope that he wasn’t wiped out by the bathroom bogeyman.

There is always something to entertain me in Waikiki—whether I am driving, strolling, or shopping. My cart is never empty.
