Holiday Foods… Traditional, Unique, or Fun?

This Thanksgiving, due to logistics, last minute family member’s health, hospitalization etc…

..,we’ve opted for “Non-Traditional”.  We may do carry out of pizza or each of their own choice from someplace, together. Or stop by and drop something off.

Which got me to thinking…That’s ok, why does it HAVE to be the same… and I wonder who else might be doing something different other than the standby traditional ham or turkey.
I’ve know some families who highly enjoy their traditional family’s Italian dishes incorporated into their meal for Thanksgiving.

The holidays can be hard for a lot of us, with members who have passed or moved.
So it got me wondering what others might be having, or not having.

From the beginning we had turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce (jelly kind) as the main course on Thanksgiving. Don't remember about the sides, but over time they have changed many times.

On Christmas it was ham, covered with pineapple, sweet potatoes and an assortment of other sides. Can still see my grandmother's sweet potatoes coming out of the oven, they were not burnt but the tips were just turning. Then she came with the marshmallows. Always the big ones.

Over time ours was the place for these dinners, never have I ever thought about changing. I gave up on the sweet potatoes years ago and found me a s/tate casserole.

Things have changed alot this year, we are going to sons for Thanksgiving. I know he's not cooking it but have no clue how good of cook he married. Wish us luck.
