AI’s untapped opportunity with older adults

Many older Americans recognize the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI), although their enthusiasm depends on how it’s used, a recent AARP survey suggests. There is more openness to trying AI to simplify information and improve efficiency, but not so much if AI is replacing something typically done by a human.

    I have a paid subscription to ChatGPT and use it all the time.

     

    It can be very good!

     

    It can also have outdated information/data.

     

    Some people use AI for chatting for friendship (some people have even "married" their AI). Some have AI lovers (indeed). Some people who may have mental health issues end up getting worse because the AI plays to their vanity (this is generally true for all users, so watch out!)...some of these people end up killing themselves, or others. 


    Just a day or two ago I used the Google AI search, asking a Social Security question. The AI failed. It was sort of right. But "sort of" doesn't always count. In this case it was due to the "free" nature of the tool.

     

    I use them for research of various needs: medical, financial, home electronics, whatever, everything

     

    But I always "pull a Reagan" and "trust but verify"
