Sam’s Membership Discount

If I already have an existing membership and it is due to renew, can I use the AARP Discount on my existing membership or will I need to cancel it and start a new membership to et the 40% off?

      Supposed to get Sam's discount by clicking on link, but it does not show any discount when I go there.

        This will only work for new Sam's menbers - https://help.samsclub.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3939/~/senior-%2850%2B%29-new-membership-discount - I have been a Sam's Club member for 20 years and was told by customer service I have to be inactive for 6 months to get the discount.
