AARP Rewards Mother's Day Contest 2026!

My mom has taught me so much and continues to do so. One of the many values she's demonstrated the value of is resilience. She survived a great deal and through determination and holding on to hope, brought herself through into the happy, loving life and relationships she deserves. She gives me strength and hope, and helped shape me into a mother myself with all the kindness and encouragement I could ever ask for.

My best Mother's Day was the one following the birth of our first child.  My husband had all the pictures taken, and cards received, made into a sort of diary with plenty of room for more babies to be added. (His idea)

There were likely days when she was tired beyond measure—days when life tested her patience, her courage, and her spirit. Yet she kept going. She smiled when she was weary. She stood tall when life tried to bend her. She loved fiercely even when she had little left to give.

As children, we often don't see it. We don’t understand how much she gave up so we could have more. It is only with time, with maturity, that we begin to realize: every comfort we knew, every opportunity we had, every lesson that shaped us was touched by her.

My mother passed away 46 years ago, but she still finds ways to speak to me. Every Mother’s Day, the white irises in my backyard bloom right on schedule, reminding me of her. This year, I decided to do something different—I used Copilot, Gemini, and Suno AI to help me compose a song in her honor. It’s a mix of my memories and modern technology, titled "Ma Belle Vie USA." Here are the lyrics to the song she inspired:

 Happy Mother’s Day!

Remembering my mother with love and affectionate.  Although, she is no longer in this world, I cherish everyday the memories of her kindness, softness, teachings, unconditional love and support.  Her love for her children was everything; she had a smile even when life was not perfect. She was a warrior, a friend, an advisor.  She knew what to say at the right time; she was religious, she had principles and values; she loved family and good friends…she was my mother.  I am  grateful for everything she taught me about life, kindness and passion for what you do in life.

 I am proud to be a mother of a beautiful young lady whose values and beliefs have passed on to the new generations…my grandchildren. I’m proud, grateful and blessed for this special day. Thank you , mamãe in heaven.♥️

I grew up in a humid, equatorial country where air conditioning wasn't a thing during the 1960s. My favorite memory is of my mother sitting beside me at night, telling me Bible stories while she tirelessly fanned me to keep me cool. When she would get tired and stop, I’d "poke" her to remind her to keep going! I was a bit of a spoiled child, but she was so incredibly patient and kind. To honor her memory and her gentle spirit, I would like to dedicate this tribute song, "Honor & Sing," to her. It’s a thank you for the unconditional love she planted so deep.
