My story is really about my father's famous Mother's Day brunches. Mom would set the table with the good china and get Dad started in the kitchen, then Dad took over all the cooking. With a little help from my brother-in-law, the spread that came out of that little kitchen would rival any restaurant. We had toast and biscuits, creamed chipped beef, a huge bowl of fluffy scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries from scratch and orange juice. We finished with something from the bakery and coffee. The gentlemen would clear the table and load the dishwasher while the ladies got to relax. When my husband joined the family, he was amazed by this, and still talks about Dad's brunches. My Mom liked to entertain and always put on a nice spread. This was Dad's way to thank her for all she did to make other holidays happen. We miss them both.

Many years ago, I think it was in the early 2000s, I took my Mom to lunch on Mother's Day to her favorite neighborhood diner. She wasn't using a cane yet, but she did like to take my arm as we walked together. As we exited the diner and started to walk back to her apartment, a man noticed our arm-arm-progress and came towards us to say "I lost my Mom 20 years ago. You're very lucky." I've thought of that moment many times since my Mom passed away in 2013, especially on Mother's Day, and know beyond words how lucky I was to have her as long as I did.

When we were much younger my sister and I decided one day that our mom needed cheering up. So we decided to give her, her own private concert. We practiced our song and dance skit. Called our mom in and had her sit down. She had no idea what was going on. We sang and danced for her. She laughter and cried all at the same time. Our mom went home to be with Jesus, but I will always remember those precious moments.

My misted remembered Motherโ€™s Day was in the mid 80โ€™s. I got to sleep in my husband worke up withe children. They made my breakfast! The oatmeal wasnโ€™t cooked long enough, the toast was too dark, but the coffee and Orange juice was just right. Our 4 year old daughter was brimming with excitement and joy..  so were her 2 brothers. I actually ate it all and tried not to gag on the toast, I kept smiling at them, when I was done they all got a great hug! My husband was told in private he was to supervise the cooking next time. To remember Fathers Day comes after Mothers Day!!!  All of still laugh about that day!

The day I graduated from high school and college, I thought it was all about me. My mother watched me with the same pride as if I was taking my first steps. My mother was a co-graduate of my success, and now I understand she graduated with me.Then, I became a single mother and from kindergarten to Master Degree in college, I co-graduated along with my son. Most of these events happen near or on Mother's Day. Now, my favorite Mother's Days consist of watching my son getting a new house and as of this Mother's Day, we will be fixing his first lawnmower, constructing beds, framing and hanging pictures, moving his last belongings from my home and picking out home furnishings for him. (P.S.: Waiting for him to find a Wife) We have spent every Mother's Day and mostly everyday together and I am very proud of my son's progress through manhood. Looking for a Good man, see me.

Mom always knew what to say when I was angry or sad. I miss being able to talk to her and get an answer. She passed at the age of 93. My mother in love is 98 and still sharp as a tack. While she didn't replace my mother she holds a special place in my heart. She is also good for wonderful stories of the past and can remember almost everything...especially things I said or did! Love you mom in heaven and MIL on earthโค๏ธ

Louise was a riot- always laughing. We had an above ground pool in our yard, and our house had a wraparound porch. She'd make Jello cubes and yell WHERES THE SEALS and we'd all make seal noises as she threw them at us in the pool. I wish she could have had more time here with us, so she could get to know my girls. She made the best meatloaf, too. Miss her phone calls. Happy Mother's Day, mom, can't wait till we laugh together again.

My mother was very practical. She said "if in doubt, throw it out" Its very important to only keep things you use or help others to give it away. I love sharing my unwanted items with local foster families. It feels good to share.

My mother was the best teacher of life. She was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a self made entrepreneur. Her life lessons are filled with endless opportunities remaining in faith throughout her life. She always wanted to be a mother and she was blessed with my brother and myself. Her superpowers were knowing her children well and being a source of strength to those who crossed her path. She was an excellent cook and avid reader. A funny story that comes to mind is anytime she was not in the kitchen or living room she would be tucked away reading books. One day my brother and I could not find her. Eventually, she was located in the downstairs bathroom but the door was locked. We heard someone flipping book pages. I exclaimed โ€œMom are you ok?โ€ She just replied โ€œHey I am busy in my office at the momentโ€. She would hide out in the bathroom to read her books but there was always an afternoon snack for us waiting after school. I miss here very much. She passed away in 2004. To Mom in heaven - thank you for your love, devotion, kindness and best parenting practices that were passed down to me. Your grandson Nate is thriving and growing up to be a fine young man. Love you, your faithful and adoring daughter. Call your mother today and tell her you love and appreciate her.

Oh how I miss my mama! I miss the mama who was always quick with the sharp  wit, had a glint of orneriness in her hazel eyes and would always throw you off your game with her beautiful laugh and catchy laugh. Of course this was all before dementia chipped away at her brain.  And I often wonder, will I be next?

Her skin was used to be glowing, sun-kissed, now it's pale, dry with bruising and scars from medications. Her once troubling obesity is now down to bare bones ravished from disease that had finally taken their toll. In my mind's eye, I could picture the grim reaper standing over her body waiting for his signal, as I held her hand.

She was only 62. It was Oct/2006.

At that time she had one grandson.

In addition to this one grandson, she now has three granddaughters. I can see her smiling from ear-to-ear. She always wanted a granddaughter.

In addition to those three granddaughters, she has:

Six great granddaughters and two great grandsons.

Mama they won't be able to knock that smile off your face! ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿคฃ

Okay, now I have to tell a funny on you, mama.

We (my husband and I) were traveling with my parents (this happens to be in the later years when mom had dementia), and we it was lunchtime but in addition I had been voicing my need to use the facilities (that were falling on deaf ears). I HAD TO GO.

My dad LITERALLY has to stop and ask the locals where to eat. We were driving over an hour looking for this one restaurant (my dad needed hearing aids - especially, his right ear) - so, not the best person to have as your navigator.

We ended choosing an Outback Steakhouse.  So when we stopped, I was the first to get out and I run into the restaurant and the hostess must've saw the frantic look on my face as I asked for their restrooms. ๐Ÿšฝ

The bathroom was in the back of restaurant on an incline, so I was coming down it when I see my mom coming up it (she has those flip sunglasses on) and she goes, "Excuse me, where are the  bathrooms?" I think she was trying to be silly? Because then she goes, "Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you were my daughter!"

To which, I flip her sunglasses up, and said, "Mom, I am your daughter!"

My favorite Mother's day was a trip to Michigan. My two sons and family rented an airbnb for a week. We were at the beach almost everyday. When we weren't there, we spent our time cooking, grilling out, playing games, picking berries, hiking, bonfires and shopping of course!! I have 5 grandkids under the age of 15 and they are a blast!!! It was so much fun! And I have many precious memories and photographs.

Best Mom

l lost my mom in 1998 but I have such fond memories of her. My 3 sisters and I have conversations about her and we break out in laughter. We miss her but the memories are forever. She was very talented, she was a seamstress, she crocheted and knit. I look at items she made years ago. I have a photo of a very beautiful red and white star quilt she made. However, my son is very tall and he told his grandmother that his feet hang out the covers on his bed. So, she made him a special quilt that was long enough to cover his feet.

There are other stories that make me smile when I think about her. I lost my oldest daughter in October from Breast Cancer. I know that her grandma welcomed her to heaven.

My Mom was the best God fearing, God loving, family & friend loving person I ever knew.

Lost her in 92, cancer...๐Ÿ˜ก

And through it all she smiles

She taught me so much

Put it back where you got it

If you don't have anything good to say don't say nothing

If you gonna do it, do it right the first time

Perfect practice makes perfect

Cleanliness is next to Godliness

Don't judge

Be kind you never know how someone feels or what they are going through

She was shy

Dark red hair, I once introduced her to my boyfriend at the time as my red headed stepmother, she just grinned and said Vivian, and looked at my BF and said no I'm not

She prayed fearlessly and seen the good in people

She helped people even thought we were not rich

She took the cards she was dealt and made good out of everything

She was the best

Rest high Angel mom

I am a recovering addict, despite my habit I was my Mother's primary caretaker. One Mothers Day My brother who was disabled because of a physical ailment, was angry because Mom trusted me with the finances including his. So this particular Moms day weekend I was sent o take Carew of some business and go to the grocery store to get the meal for the holiday. Brothe got pissed and asked Mom why do that crack head have to go and handle my money. And she told him and I quote"Because that crack head got more sense than You Got! I(t was so funny)๐Ÿ˜„

My mother taught me the importance of perseverance. She said I should never give up if I did not succeed on my first attempt. I should simply try again!

But Mom also explained I should learn a lesson from the โ€œItsy Bitsy Spiderโ€ (who went up the water spout)! She said the reason why the Itsy Bitsy Spider was successful on his second attempt was because he checked out the weather conditions first! He waited until the skies were clear before he attempted a second time. Thus, the Itsy Bitsy Spider was successful because he was smart! So, Mom not only encouraged me to persevere like the Itsy Bitsy Spider, but to be a โ€œSmart Itsy Bitsy Spider!โ€ She said I should learn from my mistakes by doing my research and making adjustments. Only then, will I be successful as I persevere towards achieving my personal goals!

I will be 70 years old this October and I still miss my mother a lot.  She was a great cook, she was nurturing and love, and momma didn't take no mess.  She passed away when I was 12 year old and to this day, I feel that loss deeply.  I thank her for what she taught me in the little time we had together.  When people complement me on being a good mother or being a nurturing parent or even being a a good cook, I have only my mother to thank.  She worked hard raising us and I think she would be proud of all her children because she did her best to instill great morals in all her children.  Georgia Mae Pittman, you are loved and missed and will never be forgotten.  Love your daughter L. Diana Robinson
