Social security while staying in India

Hello,

I am a US citizen and eligible for social security. I am presently in US, but planning to move to India for extended duration. I have following questions:

Will I get social security while I am in India?

Is there any restriction on how long I can be abroad (India) for continuing getting social security?

Thank you

Kiran Bakshi

Generally, yes you will receive your benefits in most foreign countries. You can even get direct deposit in most countries in local currency at the best exchange rate.

in some cases, if you have a pension in a foreign country your SS benefit may be adjusted.

see this pamphlet at the SSA site about payment outside the US

    https://www.ssa.gov/international/payments.html

I now live in Canada and went through these steps also

    Good Luck!
