I Am So Old...(this is the theme) I remember during ballads at concerts people held up Bic lighters instead of smartphones.  (No politics!)   

Today I got a brochure from a large world cruise travel group - There were many different ones advertised but one struck my heart strings.  And yes, it does indicate CHANGE if you remember when. MAGNIFICENT MEKONG15 days - Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City If my husband were alive - I think we would just have to go.  

Today we lost, imho, the last American hero, yet no post on AARP? I'm curious about that. My opinion of him was he did what he thought was right for the United States. Other countries suffered, yes, but his loyalty to the US was apparent and valued by us. There were disparaging remarks toward him, but again, he was true to his nation! I will never appreciate disparagement of this American hero! Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather, TRUE AMERICAN HERO! Fully vacinnated! RIP Colin Powell, my hero!  #Colin_Powell #StaySafe

NPR 07/02/2021 - Wally Funk,  an 82-year-old woman who trained for NASA will go to space with Jeff Bezos  Wally Funk always wanted to go to space. In 1961, she graduated with high marks from the Mercury 13 program, a private initiative that trained women to be astronauts. Then it was canceled. And she was never accepted by NASA. But at the age of 82, she's going get her chance. Funk is joining Jeff Bezos on his trip to space. They're set to launch on July 20. And she says she can hardly wait.  She's Ready . . . . . Anybody else ready to take a ride of a lifetime???    She is quite amazing.

Came across this ad from 1974 in American Home magazine.  I post it here because, why not?   Aren't Irma and Peter adorable?  And they're still with us, too — Irma's 107 and Peter just celebrated his 112th birthday!  Happy birthday, Pete! Naw, just kiddin'. I mean...I don't know that they're not with us. I certainly hope they are still with us. Though it does seem unlikely, doesn't it? $5 for three years of dues! Such a deal! As I've mentioned to a pal here on AARP, I've got a weird thing about old magazines. I love 'em! I pick 'em up whenever I find 'em!  You can see why. It's mostly the ads. They're usually more interesting than the articles.  As for our AARP full-page ad, even the copy for the ad features verbiage we probably wouldn't see today: "Poor people!" "Gentlemen!" Today, in 2021, there are still poor people! And gentlemen! I qualify for both categories! Shh! It also mentions Modern Maturity

I can't be the only one.  What's For Dinner? Sometimes that phrase hits me with dread. UUgghh! Just too  easy to get into a rut. Can't be the only one who struggles with creating simple, healthful meals some days.  Don't get me wrong, I love to cook and experiment, But need a few more go to meals.  Remarried one year ago.  He's awesome!  He's also a vegetarian.  I'm heading more to a plant-base eating plan too.  Could use a few more suggestions.  Smoothies are great, and breakfast is usually oatmeal with nuts, seeds and berries.  Would like to fill in a few more lunches and/or dinners with something new. Thank you in advance for any input.  Christine

Here's what I wrote: be kind, I know it's a little dorky, maybe even "cheesy."  Eat pizza for breakfast cold,crease it for lunch on a fold. For dinner if you desire,what would be proper attire? Pizza in pajamas, I'm sold. So, you just have to follow and AA   BB   A   rhyming theme.  Would love to see if we have any poets in our midst.    Christine

Hello Everyone! I don't know how many of you have had to get a Covid test for one reason or another, but I was ordered to get one today (yes, on a Sunday!) due to a test I'm having done as an outpatient this coming week. I knew it wasn't going to be comfortable by any means.  But I didn't expect to feel like a lighted blow torch was going up my nose, and I would feel that for the major way home.  UGH!  I think the guy administering it to me singed my brains!  Ha!   Owie! This cycle of setting goals and then feeling disappointed in ourselves if/when we don't achieve them isn't healthy.    2020 was one of the most challenging years for so many of us. We lost so much, but as I reflected on the past year, the word that kept coming to my mind was "resilient." Humans are remarkable creatures, and our ability to bounce back is a quality I admire.   After some reflection on 2020, I set my sights on 2021. What word did I want to bring with me into the new year? What was my desire for myself in the year ahead? Unfortunately, a bright waning gibbous moon will light up the sky on the expected peak night from late night January 2 until dawn January 3. Although the Quadrantids have been known to produce some 50-100 meteors in a dark sky, their peak is extremely narrow, time-wise. Peaks of the Perseid or Geminid meteor showers persist for a day or more, allowing all time zones around the world to enjoy a good display of Perseids or Geminids. But the Quadrantids’ peak lasts only a few hours. So you have to be on the right part of Earth – preferably with the radiant high in your sky – in order to experience the peak of the Quadrantids.
