The Songs About Getting Older

""Hope I die before I get old," sang 21-year-old Roger Daltrey in 1965—and 43 years later, he's still singing it. Rock 'n' roll has always been invested in a Byronic cult of blazing youth and beautiful corpses. But as tyros have turned into reunion-tour warhorses, rockers have had to come to terms with the ironies—and the indignities and the glories—of old age."

What are the songs that talk about getting older, looking back, etc?

My favorite song about getting older is "Shades of Gray" by Billy Joel. Not only is Billy Joel my favorite singer/songwriter, he hits the nail on the head with this song. At least it's true in my life, anyway. He talks about how, as we age, distinctions between what we once looked at as black and white may now become more indistinct as we struggle with misconceptions that may have clouded our more youthful thinking. If nothing else, this song always makes me stop and think about how I view things. There are so many more ways of looking at things than just one!

'My next 30 years' by Tim McGraw.

'I think I'll take a moment, celebrate my age
The ending of an era and the turning of a page
Now it's time to focus in on where I go from here
Lord, have mercy on my next thirty years....

Oh, my next thirty years, I'm gonna watch my weight
Eat a few more salads and not stay up so late
Drink a little lemonade and not so many beers
Maybe I'll remember my next thirty years

My next thirty years will be the best years of my life...
Spend precious moments with the ones that I hold dear
Make up for lost time here in my next thirty years...'

The Memory Song by Tom Rush.  It always makes me laugh, even though I’m a bit sorry I can relate to it so well.
