Spoiler (Highlight to read)Just do it! 🙂Just do it! Today marks my '7th' anniversary of quitting smoking, 'Cold Turkey.' You know that expression, right? It's when you just stop doing it, like slamming on the brakes, and leaving a skid mark on the road. My story really isn't that interesting...it is bizarre, though, as I never thought I'd ever quit. I started smoking when I was 14 years old. Fast-forward to 2016, and I just quit. Zero cravings. It's like I have never smoked a day in my life. NOTE: Listen to your mind/body, peeps! It tells you lots of things, as did mine when it told me to (*in little voice*) 'STOP SMOKING, KELLY, NOW!' And, I did. Going by what-ifs,' I feel that if I did continue to smoke cigarettes, I would have fallen 'ill,' sooner than later. I am sympathetic to those that absolutely cannot quit, like my mother, she practically died with a cigarette between her fingers. We tried everything to get her to quit, growing up, but she just went back to it,

 

Hey.  There is a theatrical group called Stages St. Louis and they are located in two places. One in Chesterfield and the other is in Kirkwood.  Each December, they hold auditions.  While this year may be casted out, but in December, they hold auditions.  The Kirkwood Performing Arts Center is a state-of-the art theater and has the stage that has been designed to handle those in wheelchairs as well.  If you sign up for their email list, you might get an email before auditions go public.  Here is their website: https://stagesstlouis.org/

Reflections on my Most Recent WalksIt is normal to feel sorry for people with disabilities. Last week I saw a young woman hobbling about on crutches. Half of her right leg was amputated. I was taken aback: What a pity! Yesterday, an elderly woman coming towards me was so stooped over that as she tried to move, her head almost touched the pavement. I was stunned: How disheartening!Sometimes I feel sorry for myself because I have an array of physical problems: an aggressive and rare blood cancer, non-functioning adrenal glands, periodic angina, and pervasive arthritis. But all of these conditions are treatable.Losing a limb and massive bone loss are not reversible. Seeing other people struggling with their deformities makes me grateful that I am still in relatively good health, thanks to precisely targeted medication, daily half-hour walks, and a positive attitude nourished by and sustained with the help of my upbeat wife who has banished negativity from our household.While bleak used to

A Typical Atypical Walk in WaikikiMy most recent walk in Waikiki was unusually eventful. As I got started, I saw at least a dozen elderly men smoking cigarettes as they randomly began to pass by me. They were so fanatically devoted to their addiction that it was amazing that they were still mobile. The stench was so overpowering that I almost gagged. But there was a saving grace. Each person gave me a warm greeting: from a heartfelt hello to what a great day it was, and I should enjoy every moment of it. So much for being judgmental!Continuing down the street, I encountered a crowd of variously disabled young men and women. They progressed slowly and silently. Some of them had difficulty maneuvering with canes or walkers; a few others were edging along in wheelchairs. I was beginning to feel gloomy, but I soon rebounded. Before the procession turned the corner, they all smiled and waved at me. Unexpected graciousness galore!As I was nearing the end of my jaunt, I saw two strange sights

Letting Go Next to my Leisure Heritage condo, there are two rows of wide spear-like bushes facing the Waikiki Community Center. During the recent drought, the front row was unscathed, but half of the back row had badly browned and shriveled. What an eyesore! For over a month, each time that I walked past that plot of land, I shuddered. In fact, I was so upset that I felt like snipping off the increasingly dead leaves myself; the gardener certainly had no interest in pruning the unsightly bushes. Aha! Since moving to an apartment in Waikiki, I don’t have any yard clippers, but I do have a trusty pair of scissors. I began to fantasize about using them stealthily at night to remove the offending foliage. I have always had trouble respecting property boundaries in my neighborhood; although it is hard for me to curb my enthusiasm for trimming nearby untended bushes, I have learned to restrain my compulsion. But my patience was becoming as threadbare as the discolored and disintegrating

I joined a widow/widowers group but most of them are 20 years older than I am.  They have dances, but do they play 80s music?  I was told probably not.  I just don't fit in anywhere.  I do have friends who are in their 70s and 80s, but for dating, I'd like them to be in their 50s or 60s.  I do NOT want to meet anyone online here or anything, just looking for suggestions. My sister warned me against online dating.  She said just meet people naturally.  I go to church, but the men are married or too old.  Church is where I met my late husband 32 years ago.  But he was truly special.  Where do you go to meet people who are in their 50s?
