The actor gained fame for her โ€˜Kiss my gritsโ€™ catchphrase, but her career encompassed far more than broad comedy.

Polly Holliday, a versatile actor who found fame in the 1970s as sassy Southern waitress Flo on the sitcom Alice, died Tuesday. She was 88.

Floโ€™s catchphrase โ€” โ€œKiss my grits!โ€ โ€” became an indelible part of American pop culture during Aliceโ€™s TV run from 1976 to 1985. The character also earned Holliday four Emmy nominations โ€” three for her work on Alice and one for her spin-off series Flo โ€” along with Golden Globe wins in 1979 and 1980. (She was also nominated for a Golden Globe in 1981 for Flo.)

    Now age 67, it has been YEARS since I thought of this show & Flo.

     

    Lol, many HOURS of "giggling" - thank you Polly. Rest in peace.

      I still watch reruns on YouTube. I was a big fan of the show. I fondly remember watching it on Sunday nights so many years ago when I was in school. RIP Polly.

        Thank you for the information,  Nicole. I had no idea. I believe that she was the last surviving member of the original cast. I always think about her character having several ex husbands and lots of boyfriends. I also remember her character talking about going Jitterbugging. Thanks again for letting us know, Nicole. ๐Ÿ’Œ

          When I think about Polly, I remember her playing the mean lady from the bank in Gremlins, Jill's mother on Home Improvement, and a neighbor of Sally Field in Mrs.Doubtfire. ๐Ÿ™‚

            Hi Michelle @MichelleC103656 , thanks for stopping by my friend. I just "googled" to see WHERE "Alice" can be viewed. All seem to require a payment which is fine. Lol, I have a Prime Subscription, but they want a "separate" payment. Where on YouTube are you viewing? Thought I would make some time to do what you do.             Hello Nicole!  I watch the reruns of Alice on regular YouTube. Several people have uploaded various episodes and whole seasons. I just checked. The free episodes are listed below the pay ones and the ones to buy. There are episodes from Belkis in ignesi,Khanh Handmade, and Tuntuni Stories. Happy viewing! ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿซ
