one year ago and so alone

My sweetheart died a year ago. The most difficult thing is getting help...to do yard work, handyman projects or even someone to pick me up after a medical procedure.   Gah. I am moving to be closer to family in the spring,  but it's going to be a long winter.

@angelab52 I’m so very sorry for your loss. I’m sure it’s been a tough year. Sounds like a good plan to move closer to family in the spring - too bad you can’t pull it off before winter!

Depending on where you live, there may be a “village” concept community level program where people support each other. Some “villages” also have agreements with various agencies for discounted services - such as transportation. You can check to see if there is a “village” concept where you live - could be a huge help to you this winter! The one in my community (Alexandria, VA) even recruits volunteers to shovel snow for people who can’t do that. See if there is a community near you: https://www.vtvnetwork.org/ (Scroll down to “Find a Village” and put in your zip code). Even the small rural town I grew up in has a village going!

Another option is to contact your local area agency on aging and ask about any services that might be availale to help you with yard work, handyman, chore and transportation. They often have free services and programs for these things! Find your AAA by using the Eldercare Locator at www.eldercare.acl.gov or call 1-800-677-1116 to speak to a live agent.

I hope these suggestions will be helpful!!

Thinking of you!
