Lost my friend

Lost my best friend on Halloween last year. It was a fluke that she died, it should never have happened. She would never believe she would be gone . She was my fun friend, always up for a good time. We lived five minutes from each other and carpooled for 25 years. We taught together . Since she died life hasn't been the same. I have friends but they don't do anything, just lunch. Or I have to drive. It's such a lonely feeling

Hi @EllenF890554 - I’m sorry.  That’s so hard.  And anniversaries of our loved ones dying can be such a struggle.  Having that person be your best friend, is so harsh a loss.  I’m so sorry.  She sounds like she was fun.  And things probably do feel at times different, and alone.  Something that keeps me going when I lose a loved one is to know in my heart that they wouldn’t want me to be so sad all the time.  When I find my mind wandering into the sad place, I think of them in happy times and it tends to help me smile or laugh.  I know they’d want me to do that.  It can be hard doing it, but it helps me.  I’m sorry for your loss.

Hi Ellen. I am SO SORRY you lost your best friend. Best friends are precious.  Some people never develop a friendship like that.  You will miss her forever.

It is hard to make friends as an older person. There are many ways to try. My experience is that im more likely to move from acquaintance to friend with repeated times of hanging out

And that I need LOTS of acquaintances before I gain one friend. Also, I've been writing letters to old friends, seeing if I can reconnect with someone who knew me when.

But mostly I  want you to know that it's a heavy time. You grieve because you loved

We are here and we know a little of how you feel

What did you love about her?

Hugs,

Jane

Dear Ellen @EllenF890554 , I am so sorry for your loss dear friend.

Do you drive?

If yes, volunteering is a GREAT way to meet new people. Also gives you an "escape" from grieving.

Luv,
