Question

lack of gift card redemption options

I am very dissatisfied and disappointed that when I had over 5,000 points available, not one gift card redemption was available.   Now I check my account, with a zero balance, there are target, Walmart, etc.  I think it is a scam to get you to sign up spend hours doing all the activities with no way to redeem your points.  I think it’s unacceptable, and again it is all a scam.  As I recall, not even the product discounts or coupons worked either.  It is a shame because it was never like this before.
AARP needs to make me whole on my points that were completely worthless when they were available because having them now would be well worth my five year subscription.

Hi @SydneyG520239

I can understand why it would be frustrating to spend time earning points, only to find that the rewards you were interested in weren't available when you were ready to redeem them.

Reward availability can change over time, and some gift cards and other offers may become unavailable due to inventory or redemption limits. However, I understand your concern that the rewards available now were not available when you had points to use.

For questions about expired points, reward availability, or to discuss your specific account situation, we'd recommend contacting AARP Member Services so they can review your account and provide guidance based on your circumstances.

Hi @DarrylL35959 , could one of my multiple posts be deleted below.  I don’t care which.  Double posts are a problem when the initial posts don’t show up.  Thanks.

It was very frustrating in the past when there were hardly any gift cards offered, and the few that were offered would sell out so fast it was hard to get any of them.  However, it looks like someone finally changed the program (not sure if it was HelloWorld/Merkle or AARP) and now there are quite a few gift cards available each month.  The value went from $10 to $5, but at least now you can get something with your points.  Walmart and Amazon gift cards still sell out fast at the beginning of the month, but new ones are added throughout the month and some are usually available at the end of the month (because alot of people have used there 3 redemptions by that time).  I doubt that AARP will give you back your points (I assume you lost them because they expired), since they weren’t completely worthless (there were also options to spend points on Instant Wins and Sweepstakes, magazines), but you can always ask.  Even if you don’t get your points back, if you want to start getting some of the $5 gift cards, you just have to start earning points again.  As @SereneSeagull said, you can earn a max of 7500 points a day, so in a couple days you will have enough for some of the lower points gift cards.  But it is up to you to decide if spending the time earning points is worth it to get a $5 gift card.

I earn points for cards all the time.  Every month I get Amazon and or restaurant gift cards.  Members here can earn up to 7500 points a day.

Every month there’s a limit of 3 cards for points redeemed per month. And I always get 3 a month.  Won a few Instants.  Yes, the Amazon and Walmart ones take 28k usually now to get, and the sit down restaurants can take 17k give or take.  But the points add up daily when you do the quizes, videos and games.

I use gift cards stacked with quite a bit of savings.  Already more than paid for 1 year membership several times over.

I’ve been earning enough points all the time for Walmart and restaurant gift cards.  Amazon goes for 28,000 lately, sit down restaurants range around 15,000 to 17,000.  You can earn as a member over 7k a day.

I earn, save and redeem all the time.  I always have enough points every month.  Three gift cards for points a month and then the instant ones every so often.  Been doing that for a while.
