Absolutely nothing about this program has been, IMHO, satisfactory.

I am receiving a ton of "promotional" offers, WEEKS after having contacted the phone center to stop them. Life insurance, auto insurance, you know what? I don't give a rodent's rectum. Take me off the list! Like I asked for you to do, WEEKS ago.

Dental plans? F you. Stop sending me this crap. Life Insurance, auto insurance. I AM GOOD WITH WHAT I ALREADY HAVE!!! I politely asked you to stop sending me this crap. I AM STILL RECEIVING IT!!!

WTF??? Why can't this actually be ENDED???

And the "rewards program".. a huge collection of absolutely nothing that even remotely interests me. Nice to get a discount by showing your AARP card to two restaurants in my area. Everything else has nothing to do with me.

I'm seriously tempted to just cancel it all and be done with it.

AARP, change my mind.

CLARIFICATION: My issue is _not_ emails. I can either filter those, or block them at the server level. My big gripe is with the JUNK mail delivered via US Postal Service. Just a few days ago, I found in my mailbox _two_ identical folded post cards promoting some dental insurance plan, and my third (for this month) letter regarding an auto insurance program. I'm not interested, and changing the settings under Communications does no good. I called the auto insurance company to complain, and they connected me to an AARP rep.

Same, I keep getting these emails too. I even click on the "unsubscribe from this type of email, " but a few days later, they're coming again, the same type. I even go in where you can select the emails you want to receive, but they just keep coming. AARP has really gone downhill over the last year or so.

Have you tried making changes to your AARP account from the pull-down menu on the AARP website? There is an item marked COMMUNICATION PREFERENCES

I got frustrated with so many insurance mailings a few years ago that I actually called many of them and had them add me to a NO CONTACT list since I have other options available to me through my retirement plan through my employer/union.

It's also good to know that because of mailing lists it can take up to 6 months to fully be removed. You can also make them mad by using any pre-paid envelopes included in the mailing and mail it back to them. They they are responsible for the postage. (Have fun with it, make them as mad as you are!)

I did try to make those changes. No love.

Tho I do like the idea of sending their crap back to them, I did try that, and I'm still getting more.

I'll give it another few weeks.. if it keeps up, I'm canceling my account.

AARP needs to supply a way to delete your ads et al in messages. PLEASE.

Also, your jobs tool doesn't work very well at all.

This is becoming more and more typical with organizations, not just AARP. The lunatics are running the asylum, and they decide what you want and do not want. It's commonplace, now.

I understand that you have contacted us by phone to request that you stop receiving insurance offers and promotional mailings from our service providers, but you're still receiving them weeks after making that request. Because our providers prepare their mailings ahead of time on a three-month schedule, it may take up to 12 weeks to completely stop receiving those mailings to your address. Also, the AARP Rewards catalog is dynamic and subject to change. We encourage you to check back periodically as new inventory is added for a variety of brands. Well, the magazine and the AARP bulletin were stopped for a while.

But I just received the magazine, a few days ago.

Do I have to reset my preferences every year, or something? Why has this started back up?

Here it is, mid August. I'm still getting the AARP magazine. What's it going to take to get these to stop, and to never be put back on the subscription list?

You (and every other org that does it) need to STOP printing months in advance. Lining up 5+ issues with the names and addresses printed on them. If you insist on doing that, you should at least have some kind of contingency in place where those can be located and removed from the stack within two weeks.
