Question

AARP/Hartford Auto Insurance

My husband is losing his eyesight and can no longer drive safely. We thought we would do the right thing and tell The Hartford there was now only one driver for our 3 cars. We had one each and a topless Chevy for a trip out on the occasional Sunday in the summer. I was hoping for perhaps a reduction in the policy cost but would have been OK with no changes. Instead they increased my Policy for myself with 3 cars by $1000/year. How crazy is that? We wish we had not told them. Has anyone else had this issue?

Is the only solution to go with another insurer after 35 years with the Hartford?

I think AARP should look into this too.

It didn't make sense. They said that they base the policy cost on our combined driving records and being just one means it will go up. We are the same age and both have the same excellent driving record. We were listed as a primary driver on 2 vehicles, his and hers, with a pleasure vehicle. Now it's just my car and 2 pleasure vehicles 1 diver. !!!

@philbertho , I am very curious, and NO pressure to answer - I will understand. What was the reason for the increase?
