Should "American Pie" be put out to pasture? Has John Lennon's "Imagine" been imagined one too many times? What songs would you retire? If I hear that song one more time!I was at a restaurant recently when "Cats In The Cradle," a mid-'70s song by Harry Chapin, came on. It's the one about a dad too busy for his son, and ends with the son growing up to be too busy for his dad. Anyway, the thought hit me, "Do I really ever have to hear this song again?"  Just read that Season 6 of the PBS Masterpiece series, All Creatures Great and Small, will be airing in early 2026.  Such a relaxing series, and in an absolutely amazing setting.  So well done, but I think most things by PBS tend to be in my opinion.  I’m really looking forward to this new season.  The trials and tribulations, laughter and tears of James Herriot’s beloved veterinary stories have been a childhood favorite of mine.   PBS Series - All Creatures Great and Small - Season 6

Per Google Oxford Languages, to reimagine is to reinterpret (an event, work of art, etc.) imaginatively. To form a new conception. I thought in light of the upcoming New Year, where we often contemplate and try reimagining our jobs, our hobbies and interests, ourselves and our life paths, I would share a collection of songs expertly reimagined by many skilled artists. The ones that come to mind most readily for me are some interestingly enough by the original artist in a new iteration of themselves, often in their transition from membership in their rock band to their status as a solo artist. Think Phil Collins/Genesis with “Behind the Lines,” the solo offering a pop-R&B version of the song, with the original a progressive rock staple. Or Sting/Police with Shadows in the Rain, with reggae rock giving way to a jazz-pop style. Was not able to find any topics in regard to the LP record or Vinyl as it is more commonly called. I was wondering if any others are out here who still buy, sell and collect records. I have a modest collection of 2500 records or so with a couple of turntables etc. and listen on a regular basis.  Although the sale of vinyl has been growing every year it still only represents a small fraction of total music sales and I feel it is a generational thing that will say within the next 25 years be gone expect for perhaps a few diehards.I just don’t see the next generation having the patience to deal with records, especially since they seem to be song orienteered not album orienteered and we know records don’t lend themselves well to playing side 1 track 2 and 5 and then switching to another album side 2 track 4.

  This time of year brings weather changes, holidays,memories and mixed emotions.  Post songs, videos or photos for the seasons or holidays. Either meaningful or just plain fun. No particular order. Don't worry about repeats.

Don't know if this has been done before. There are songs with questions in the titles, either with a question mark or implied one. So, there should be an answer to the questions in other song titles. Thought it would be fun. What are some of your favorite songs to slow dance to?One of mine is Ebb Tide by The Righteous Brothers.

 As in Musicals, plays, lectures, operas, singers, etc…      I’ve enjoyed Food Network’s, Alton Brown’s stage shows every year for a while.  He makes cooking and science fun!  Always interesting and amusing at the same time! My favorite musical was CATS, which I saw many years ago.I like supporting community theater as well, and our area has a wonderful one at decent prices for their productions.  I’ve seen several plays that I’ve enjoyed there.   

As I’m coming to two years of the worst times of my life, both personally and professionally, I’ve noticed there are a lot of rock songs out there that deal with the Stressors/Pressures of everyday life. I thought it would be a great topic to explore. Songs with pressure in the title are obvious, but I’m hoping this will bring out other, more subtle songs that address these issues. I will start with one of my all time favorites in this area-”We gotta get out of this place” by The Animals

Jimmy Kimmel lost his life long friend Cleto the other day. Instead of his standard monologue, he remembered his friend.  Intermittently unable to hold back tears, he brought tears (and laughs) to my eyes as he reviewed the life long friendship he had had with Cleto since age 9. Chronologically revisiting their life together as children, teenagers, and men was one of the most heartfelt eulogies I had ever heard.  Cleto, as a younger man, became somewhat famous regionally as a saxophonist but when Kimmel became nationally famous, he begged the producers to hire his friend as the band leader. They hired him. They even hired Cleto's dad who still is in the Kimmel show's band.  Cleto died young at age 59 and must've been sick because Kimmel thanked a long list of caregivers at the end of the monologue honoring his friend.

      For me it would have to be James Taylor, at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, recently. I don’t think anything will ever top that entire experience!  😀  Billy Joel, as well as Bruce, would be next on my list of concerts that I’ve been to that were absolutely fantastic.      Any concert that tops your list, or one you hope to go to?     

My mom is moving this weekend, as she says for the last time, by choice, to a wonderful independent living community, I thought I might explore moving through song, creating a playlist of songs with the word Move or Moving in their title. Some moving song greats include Billy Joel’s “Movin’ Out,” UB40 or Bob Marley’s “Keep On Moving,” George Thorogood’s “Move It On Over,” Celine Dion’s “Love Can Move Mountains,” Carole King’s “I Feel The Earth Move,” James Taylor’s “Something In The Way She Moves,” Bob Seger’s “Night Moves,” and Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger.” Then there are several that want to actually make us get up and move, perhaps to the beat of the song, including “Move Ya Body,” “Move Your Feet,” “I Like To Move It,” “The Way You Move,” and maybe the song that started such songs, “Bust A Move.” https://listentothemusicblog.com/movin-out-move-s-moving-songs/

     I’d like to play several aluminum disc recordings that have been passed down.  They are quite dear to us as they contain a family member singing.  I believe these were recorded in one of those old record-your-voice booths, I think.   I remember as a child, someone trying to play it on a traditional record player with not much luck.  I’ve heard that it can wreck those needles, so don’t want to try. Anyone know of a way to do this, or a way to transfer the recordings professionally by a company.  Thanks!
