I joined a widow/widowers group but most of them are 20 years older than I am.  They have dances, but do they play 80s music?  I was told probably not.  I just don't fit in anywhere.  I do have friends who are in their 70s and 80s, but for dating, I'd like them to be in their 50s or 60s.  I do NOT want to meet anyone online here or anything, just looking for suggestions. My sister warned me against online dating.  She said just meet people naturally.  I go to church, but the men are married or too old.  Church is where I met my late husband 32 years ago.  But he was truly special.  Where do you go to meet people who are in their 50s?

 Courtesy Triumphs in Waikiki Having a couple of hours of free time before getting my 100-plus “Mum” to the Hawaii Symphony concert this past Sunday, I decided to leisurely drive through some posh neighborhoods in a Diamond Head gated community.The hilly and narrow street that I chose was bookended with mammoth luxurious homes having extremely short driveways. Parked cars clogged the entire left side of the street. As I drove half-way up, I saw three vehicles coming towards me. I had no room to bypass them or turn around. And the drivers were not backing up so that I could continue my sightseeing expedition. They just crept closer to me.I had choice but to retreat. Using my back-up camera, I tentatively drove back down the middle of the street, making sure that I would avoid bumping into any parked cars. From Painful to PlayfulYesterday, as my wife and I entered our Leisure Heritage condo lobby, we saw a distraught middle-aged woman surrounded by some hefty bags. The moment that she noticed us, she began to loudly and relentlessly complain that the taxi had not dropped her off where she was supposed to go: the Waikiki Health Center. Although my wife and I clearly explained that her destination was just next door, she continued her mean-spirited rant.  Before the harridan completely imploded, my wife intervened: she offered to escort her to the clinic. To our relief, the woman ended her scary diatribe and obediently followed my wife.What a nasty few moments! But my day soon dramatically improved as I began taking my walk. A young couple was holding hands ahead of me. The woman suddenly started to wiggle and jiggle and skip and sway. Her partner affectionately gave her a pat on the butt. I believe that many of us like the idea of being self sufficient and independent to what ever extent we can, and this is particularly true as we age. At my age of 84 with a few physical problems I can speak with authority about this. I sincerely believe that my basic computer knowledge and use along with a I Phone has enabled me to maintain my independence far better than most of my peer group and maintain a good quality of life. No one had to force me to give up driving two years ago, I made that decision my self and sold my car in 24 hours for a good price and then called and cancelled my auto insurance and started using UBER. I can go where ever I want when ever I want and not be DEPENDENT on anyone and believe it or not the cost of the 175 odd UBER TRIPS over the past two years is about equal to what I was paying for my auto insurance. The Aloha Spirit in Alive and Well in WaikikiDuring my walk today, I witnessed two acts of lovingkindness. Blustery winds buffeted an elderly woman on a moped. The wide-brimmed straw hat that she was wearing catapulted off her head and ended up tumbling a few feet away from her. Suddenly, a nearby young man got off his bike, scooped up the hat from the road (luckily there was a break in the traffic), and gave it to the greatly relieved woman who thanked him with a pat on the back. Then they both rode toward the end of the street—almost in tandem.A minute later as I rounded the bend, I saw an old couple slowly inch their way on a narrow sidewalk. The woman poked at the pavement with a cane, and the man, who didn’t seem to have a mobility issue, stayed right beside her. Bus BluesThis afternoon my wife dropped me off at a convenient bus stop while she took our 100-year-old adopted mum for a haircut.I didn’t mind that the bus to Waikiki was delayed for about 30 minutes. I was able to take my daily walk within sight of the bus stop so that I could use my time constructively (my father loved the word constructive: “What did you do today that was constructive,” he would invariably inquire).When I finally saw the bus arrive, it dawned on me that I did not have a mask to protect myself from a host of viruses that are circulating in Honolulu. Constructive could perhaps morph into destructive.Squelching my dismay, I figured that as usual I could sit far away from anyone who wasn’t wearing a mask. Boy was I wrong! After I entered Bus 2, I was appalled to find that no passenger was wearing a mask; and what was worse, the bus was so crowded that I had to precariously stand in a narrow spot in the front aisle. Some might say I am being a "meanie" by getting my town to shut down psychic operations.  The ones that are located close to me are very close to churches, and in in areas where density is high.  Many of the areas that somehow that children might walk by the place where the psychic operation is going on and could even become frightened.  I know they might be nice for Halloween, but why on earth should they be within walking distance from a church or a school?  I care about the children that walk through Kirkwood, and I want them to be safe.  An area way out in the sticks might be a much better place for a psychic operation where not much people are present with little children.  I would love to see psychic operations in the city be shut down and replaced by something such as a restaurant, grocery store, and something that is more family friendly and welcomes children.  Yes, that may sound mean for those who spend their money on psychics, but for enter

I know it's the day after Valentines but what the heck. What movie do you feel is the perfect romance and why? I would have to say "Gone With the Wind". Funny because it was my mother's favorite too. I remember as a teen she took me to see it for the first time. Of course it didn't really do too much for me then. She also passed the book on to me. That was much better and after a few years I saw the movie again and now I understood the characters. Pity crushing on Leslie Howard and Clark Gable when they've been gone for so long. But Clark Gable stood the test of time. Even compared to sex symbols of the present day...Clark as Rhett Butler, MWWWRRRROWWR. The thing I love about this movie besides the stars is it was the way great movies used to be. No shades of gray or people being crazed weasels. After visiting the Tampa bay area, I've decided against even "snow-birding" in that area for the following reasons; #1-Traffic. Unless you are a person who really enjoys playing in four-to-six lanes of traffic all headed in the same direction at 60 to 80 MPH (with the occasional crotch-rocket idiot shooting past at 130 plus on his donorcycle), you will not like the traffic in this area at all.    #2-Housing-You either have your choice of downtown half-million-dollar condos, ghetto/barrio residences or suburban newer homes in Zepherhills, Wesley Chapel, etc., which are also priced at half-million and up, and which will "steal" hours per day of your precious few remaining ones engaging in no.1 above, and with no police protection that I ever saw!      #3-Inflation-I believe this area ties with New York City and California in high prices for everything.
