Career & Employment

I have been working at a nursing home for almost 30 years as a dietary manager. I was good at my job. For the past few years owner ship of nursing home has gone through several changes. this last year owners who are basis in California started running the home. they came in complaining of overtime and missed punches on the clock. I tried to explain to them that I can't force people to work. Sure, we have good people that are willing to step up and work extra hours to ensure the residents are feed and taken care of. That was my number one action to ensure residents were treated with respect and fed.   Well, they fired me last week. For those complainants as stated above. They planned well in advance to fire me hiring my replacement weeks before. The new manager even said they wanted to go younger in my position. They did not offer me any kind of retirement package of even a demotion. I gave my heart and soul to that place. The HILLTOP at blue river care located in K

The job board lists a number of software engineering jobs for UnitedHealth Group as being in "Hyderabad, Indiana". Those jobs are actually in India, not Indiana. So... misleading at best.

At work the other day, I witnessed one of our more seasoned(read older) employees bullying an employee about half their age. They were belittling the employee's work production, work ethic, and other characteristics. They were essentially raising their voice at every opportunity. They were finger pointing; even placing their hands on the younger employee from time to time.  The older employee wasn't even their supervisor!!!!! What should I do?  Report the incident to HR or not get involved?

Thank you to all US Government Employees! We, the working generations of this Country know the years, months, hours you've devoted to service for us. My two great-aunts worked for the US Government during the Korean and Vietnam wars, after my step-grand-Mom worked during WWII as a translateur. None of these people received "social security" as it was not yet established. So, I now thank each and every United States Government Employee and please know we are with each and every of you! #StaySafe

FROM THE ARTICLE - SEE ARTICLE FOR MORE!!! Remote Work Helps Older People with Disabilities Get Hired. Working from home removes barriers like commutes and office accommodations. By Kenneth Terrell, AARP. Published October 22, 2024. Remote work is creating new opportunities for all jobseekers, but especially so for older adults with disabilities, according to a new study. Researchers from the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College (CRR) found that between 2018 and 2022 there was an 11.6 percent increase in telework employment for people with disabilities between the ages of 51 and 64. In fields where remote work is not possible, employment opportunities for disabled workers were essentially flat during that period. https://www.aarp.org/work/careers/remote-work-helps-adults-with-disabilities/

Many Federal employees are being asked in an email to describe their job, describe what they did last week and to what benefit for the country is your job. This doesn’t seem to be too much of an imposition - everybody should know what they do and what benefit they give to the whole.  Right? Would you answer this email ASAP or just disregard it?  Think about your current or last job - would you be able to supply such info?Too much to ask?

Why are my previous topics being removed?  I have followed all community guidelines.

Learning to reflect over one's life and understand your contributions where ever you are in the world is a great way of accepting where and who you are and how to move forward. I would love to have your read my book and review it on Amazon. Please let me know what you think at:  Shirley@AksumLiterarySociety.comBlessings,Shirley Smith

Babysitting seems to be a "popular" 1st job for the ladies. And maybe cutting the lawn for the guys. Take care,Nicole  💼  (Jobs Forum)

FROM THE ARTICLE - SEE ARTICLE FOR MORE!!! AARP Research: Age Discrimination Still Rampant in U.S. Workplaces. New study finds widespread inequality. By Emily Paulin, AARP. Published October 09, 2024. Six in 10 workers 50-plus have seen or experienced subtle forms of age discrimination at work, according to new research by AARP. While some workplaces are making strides toward equality, age discrimination is still pervasive in many organizations.  This needs to change, particularly as older workers become a larger cohort of the U.S. workforce. Workers 65-plus represent the fastest-growing segment of the labor force, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. They account for more than 60 percent of the projected labor force growth over the 2020–30 decade. https://www.aarp.org/politics-society/advocacy/info-2024/workplace-age-discrimination-still-pervasive.html

Due to seeing commercials about clinical trials I am writing this to find out how much you know about them which companies are preferable to join and are any in the Kansas City Mo area. I am 71 restarting my life and would need as much money as I can earn and clinical trials may be an ideal way to accomplish this.

I'm looking for a part time job with little success.  I have a bad back, so anything requiring standing for extended periods of time isn't possible. Any and all suggestions are welcome.  Thank you!

I am very happy to see some bus stops reopening.  I am proud of you all.  Lets keep it up.  Also some people may have had experience in keeping our military equipment in good working order.  The buses Metro operates are built by Gillig Corporation.  And they are the best buses I have ever ridden.  They got all the bells and whistles that you could ever think of.  The more we fill these positions, the better chance more bus routes in senior territory will reopen.   https://www.metrostlouis.org/careers/

I have been at my job since 2021. I started at the bottom, using handheld scanners, & worked my way up, now I have my own work station with a computer. I am 52 & have office experience. My company uses D365. I have never used D365. I was only trained in the bare minimum of the shipping/receiving process. Now, accounting needs me to adjust receipts for invoicing purposes. I do not know how to do this.I work with 18 to 30 year olds  I am a rarity. I ask for help, they just laugh & make smart remarks. Ive spoken to my supervisor & manager, they too do the same. I am stuck. Anyone here have experience in the retail mainly in receiving  that uses D365 F& O?

Driving a bus does have some side effects such as having to work nights and weekends.  But anyone who gets that job is really doing a great service for tourists.  And it is the driving source in keeping our hotels, retail shops, restaurants, and hospitals open.  The bus driver has the authority to make passengers behave and can put troublemakers off of his or her bus.  And here is another perk.  Metro's new electric buses are very quiet!   Metro has four bus garages.  One in Brentwood just north of Marshall Avenue just outside Webster Groves.  Another is at DeBalivere and Delmar.  There is a 3rd one in St. Clair County, Illinois and the main one is at the corner of Compton and Spruce Streets.  Most of the bus routes that serve the areas that are home to many veterans are in South St. Louis County and they operate out of the Brentwood Garage.   The more bus driver job vacancies we fill, the sooner we will reopen

FROM THE ARTICLE - SEE ARTICLE FOR MORE!!! After Retirement, A Newfound Career Restores Purpose. Norma Trevino rediscovered joy through community service. When COVID-19 upended the world in 2020, it also reshaped Norma Trevino's life. At 66, she abruptly retired from her career in accounting and administration. While she had her beloved 11-year-old Yorkie and hobbies like embroidery and cooking to keep her occupied, the pandemic's isolation exposed a truth about Norma: Community was the cornerstone of her active, engaged lifestyle. As daily connections and meaningful work disappeared, Norma faced an unexpected challenge – how to maintain her sense of purpose in a world on pause. "Two years after my retirement," she reveals, "I wanted to find a job because inactivity was heavily affecting my mood." Although many retirees return to the workforce out of financial necessity, for Norma it was a desire for the sense of purpose and community that a job can provide. ht

The National Museum of Transportation is in need of some volunteers and at one time, they allowed someone to set up shop and restored some of their exhibits which were one of their buses.  As of now, they have bus number 4878, 7063, and 8360.  I am not sure if they have any Gillig Phantoms but it would be cool if they do.  If you want to help out the Museum in restoring the buses, they would love to have you!  I would love for the museum to have those buses running again!  Lets show that we would want St. Louis to have it's own vintage buses running once again.

Sometimes our veterans spent long hours fixing military equipment while fighting for our country.  St. Louis Metro could use some of those veterans to work at the garages to be there to fix the buses, Call-a-Ride vehicles, and MetroLink trains.  One of the main causes for farebox malfunctions is dirt and suet getting inside causing the readers and other parts inside to not work like they should.  An easy fix would be to take the farebox apart and to blow the dirt out of all of the mechanical parts, and to thoroughly wash the glass on both sides so that the driver can see the dollars roll when they enter the box.  Sometimes the seatbelts on the Call-a-Ride vehicles don't want to extend properly.  Metro needs the mechanics so that way Call-a-Ride can have someone to fix them so that way the seatbelts will extend properly when someone is trying to buckle up.    https://www.metrostlouis.org/careers/

Metro Bus route number 9 connects several things together such as the River City Casino, grocery stores and restaurants.  Making ridership be very high in south county is great since it could help trigger expansion and that is great for those who are our ages to be able to find work and keep jobs.  One of the bus routes that could be one of the next in line to close is MetroBus route number 9.  It runs from the Shrewsbury station, then it heads south on S. Broadway, continues south ont Kingston, and then further south onto Telegraph Road.  The route provides a nice connection to Jefferson Barracks Park and National Cemetery.  Taking a ride on it just to see where it goes might be the ticket to finding places on where to work as well.  As for now, the line runs only on the weekdays and it runs only an hour apart.  But if we get enough riders on this line, it would help big time such as getting the ridership count going in the right direction and that i

Thanks to some people joining the force in keeping people moving, Metro has restored some schedules to pre pandemic levels.  That means we are doing great.  So let's keep it up!   https://www.metrostlouis.org/careers/ If you know some people that are no younger than the age of 21 and maybe the same age as all of you, pass the word!   Planning thinks it will take years to get the entire system back to pre-pandemic levels. Let's help them get those vacancies filled like hotcakes so we can get as many of those routes reopened!  Like I say, we are doing great!  Let's keep it up.

I cleared cache and cookies and logged in and out, but there's nothing when I click Job Board. I used to see available jobs, add/update resumes and see results of applications. I tried Job Seekers weekly group as well, but it was harder to participate once I accepted Ride-Share driving. Nothing can really help me because I am victimized by an ex, economic abuse, who wants to prevent work to create unsafe situations. As far as I can tell, places I apply to are threatened so don't hire me. I never faced as many obstacles to work before in my entire life! I'm not giving up and I want to keep trying. Retirement was stolen by ex-husband in 1990's, so nothing else I can do but work until I am 70. Anyone else having issues?I don't have a business to hire others, but I am identity fraud survivor and they have the potential to scam others. How can I find out of a different IP address signed up to post jobs?

How to Handle Comments About Your Age at Work. Jokes and other remarks from coworkers could be warning signs of discrimination. By Gwen Moran, AARP. Published March 02, 2023. https://www.aarp.org/work/age-discrimination/handling-ageist-comments/
