Way to Stop FREE GIFT and magazine

The topics of reducing unwanted postal mail from AARP and their affiliates (New York Life, The Hartford, AARP Medicare supplement plans, AARP Foundation, etc.) is a popular discussion with members.

Is the option of ceasing delivery of the AARP Magazine & AARP Bulletin located somewhere in our AARP account settings/preferences?

If so, where is this option?

If not, please make this option available so we don’t have to make a request via this community page or live agent.

How to stop/reduce member renewal notices - 

• Log into your AARP account (my account, communications preferences, manage renewal reminders).

TIP: Unsubscribe from any unwanted emailed newsletters you may receiving.

NOTE: If you don’t have an online account - establish one and connect your membership number to this account. Why? AARP tends to mail less postal mailers if they have an active email on file for member. Be sure to limit the emailed renewal notices which you will receive one a year.

NOTE: Unsure if you already have an online account - use the “forgot password” option. Enter each old email address - see website truepeoplesearch for a list of old email accounts. TIP: You will need access to old email account for account verification.

NOTE: Unsure of membership number - this info is listed on the AARP Magazine & Bulletin address label - nine digit number above name after # sign.

NOTE: Unsure if you/individual/name variation (including past residents/deceased individuals) has an AARP membership. Visit AARP website/membership section (aarp.org/membership/faq) - questions near bottom of website - select “check membership status”, select “AARP membership lookup”.

Enter name/zip codes of ALL old addresses as well as individuals DOB. If individual has an account it will say “welcome back xxxx” and list name/address connected to account & a partial account number. Now select “edit” - this will show if there is an email connected to said account. Gain access to this email account and log into account - use “forgot password” trick.

TIP: DOB and old address info can be found via free lookup websites like truepeoplesearch, Thatsthem (10 daily free searches), Mylife, officialusa, Clustermaps, Phonebooks, Nuwber, Unmask, etc.

TIP: Past resident accounts - try to access their account using the forget password/email trick. This will text/email them an update password notification which hopefully scares them into updating their contact info in their AARP account.

@CatherineM538250 Here to help! I was able to stop those publications for you and they will fully stop within 4-6 weeks due to pre-printed mailing labels. I'm always here if you need anything!

TIP: When renewing AARP membership choose a renewal option that doesn’t include a free gift. I normally renew via my online account which doesn’t have a free gift attached.
