OPTUM rx discount card BEWARE

I got the new AARP Prescription Discount Card and went to use it at CVS.

After CVS gave me the AARP/Optum price ($36), I asked what the GoodRX price was since I had that on my account. GOODRX was $18. HALF the price.

So if I didn't ask, I would be out $18.

They are all discounted prices but the discount is only as good as the one that is doing the negotiating with the drug co. To get the best price - check all of them and this could change so do it every time you need to reorder this med. There is also CostPlus and several others.

It may not matter to you but to some people who have high medication cost in total - it may be advantageous to always file with your regular Part D plan in order to hit the Part D out of pocket limit for the year ASAP; because it is only meds that are filled via the actual plan that count towards this $ 2000 out of pocket limit.

Just have to figure out which is the best way for you to go since it depends on specifics of the beneficiary and all the meds they may take.

Good information. Comparing prices is a good practice.

The way this AARP Optum Rx card was offered to AARP members, I "assumed" it was the best card to have. I don't recall AARP suggesting that it may not be the best price and that everyone should check all other discount programs like GoodRX.

It is a DISCOUNT card - The strength of any discount is based on how good the discount negotiator is and how much of the price they want to keep for themselves.

Optum by AARP. Total failure.

During a recent (Walgreens) pharmacy visit, I was charged $42 for my Rx whereas my Optum coupon code gave a $24 price quote. Nearly double the Optum amount. When calling the Optum customer service to verify the reason for this huge price difference, I was brushed off by the agent with the phrase Price differences do occur and furthermore the prices we publish on the website are always estimates. What a waste of time. Other discount programs are much better and are more accurate.

New AARP member, checking out benefits... Optum, what the hell??? Almost double GoodRX. Why do AARP even bother partnering with them.

aAnd that isn't all-I was told by CVS employee that Optum's "approved" items were maked with blue price tags, and I found several blue tags alright, but whatd'ya know? There were no items on the spaces that were marked-empty-NADA! iT'S ALL A BIG SHAM fOLKS!
