Denneys Discounts has rules now

Denneys restaurant is no longer honoring the 15% Aarp discount for orders on the value menu. As a matter of fact they are not honoring any discount coupons on the value menu items.

I am done with Denneys! They sent me a 20% discount coupon in the app. I invited my 84 yr old mother to enjoy 2 super slams only to find out the discount would only be applied to the coffee.

I had the same unpleasant at my local Denny’s ; no discount on the value meal. Let the buyer beware I guess.

I just came from my local Denny's. Imagine my surprise to discover they no longer give any AARP discounts. They have two signs posted on their front register counter stating that AARP discounts are no longer given for anything. Very disappointing, especially since AARP still states a 15% discount at Denny's is still a perk of AARP membership.

Certain meal / drink classifications have ALWAYS been outside of the AARP discount.

I've been a member for many years. I used to go to Denny's quite often and many times ordered off the Value Menu and always got the 15% off of the whole check. But after a long period of time having not been there, I went there just recently, took my daughter and caregiver, and all ordered off the Value Menu. Never saw any indication noticable that discounts from AARP no longer included items off the value menu! At checkout only the overpriced coffee and soda was discounted! Prices of coffee and soda has increased a ridiculous amount so even with 15% discount - the price was still to high. (My bad for not checking menu for current price I guess instead of going by many years of prior ordering and paying reasonable amounts on both items of such)! All their non-Value Menu selections have increased by ridiculous (way over inflation increases) amounts! One of the main reasons I would go to restaurant like Denny's was because of the 15% discount on the bill! Now they will only give 15% discount on food items that they've increased their prices already by 25%!

So pretty much the only reason I've continues keeping AARP, being the Denny's discount, is now gone. How long ago it changed im not sure because of my hiatus? But now my reason for keeping my membership, other than AARP magazine, is questionable.

Don’t know if you know but Dennys also has a reward program. Sounds similar to IHOPs. I checked Dennys webpage in the FAQ section, they had one about AARP. Here’s their current terms. Picture below.

Everything is always subject to change and at participating branches is always the small print at places I’ve found, so it’s good to ask ahead.

Don't blame Denny's, blame AARP'S benefit program that usually isn't worth a crap.

Many restaurants now have loyalty programs and embedded in the rules is that you can't double dip on discounts. For example, Blooming Onion chain has Dine Rewards. Can't cash in on that and get AARP supposed benefit at the same time.

I have all sorts of issues with AARP'S benefits over the years.

My favorite was a coupon program that AARP and THE ENTERTAINMENT BOOK co-sponsored. A coupon for a golf course appeared for the FIRST time on AARP'S ON-LINE COUPON BOOK. Not only was the golf course closed, it had been closed for a year. Weeds and trash covered the property. Beyond that, they were closed by local law enforcement because some kind of illegal activity was being performed there. There was chain link fence around the entire property and it was padlocked.......AND AARP THEN...I SAID THEN PUT OUT A COUPON for a BOGO on greens fees for this course.

I've been using my aarp at outback and I earn rewards, What you can't do is use a rewards that you earned with the dine rewards example you earned enough points from dining for a $5 reward. You plan to dine and use the $5 rewards For that scenario you cannot also use the aarp. A perk not well known with them is every time you earn rewards you also earn a chit towards another reward. Dine 3 times, no minimum spend, earn 175 extra points equal to $2.50. You can't use that $2.50 on your next meal (unless your spend on those 3 visits earned you as much as the 175 points) but keep doing this. 3 more visits equals 3 more chits, now you got 350 points or $5. You still have that $2.50. Maybe you spend that new $5 on your next visit. Or save it. The numbers are something like 3, 6, 9, then it jumps a little like 14 and 19. Then up to 26 but after that it is a bit crazy like 52. this is on top of whatever points you are earning on dining. If you are near a restaurant and can benefit from this you can earn a nice chunk. And you can save it all (watch out for expiration about 6 months). I have used $25 on a visit. If you have multiple diners and you pay the bill you get rewards based on the total spend. You cannot split the meal and pay for the other meals and get multiple chits. And I think the time limit is something like 30 minutes so you could go twice in the same day but space it out. However, with all this said, you have to keep on top of it. They do a good job most of the time sending you an email saying thanks for your visit etc but sometimes they slip on the number of visits. I have had to email them or call them twice to get my chits in. The chits are based on a calendar year so if you start this late in the year and perhaps visit 3 times a month you might not get enough chits for the bonus before Dec 31. I usually start in the spring and go a few times each month so that I don't run out too early and have to wait until January. There are other restaurants included with this program which apparently use the same system but they are not in my area so I have not experienced them.

recently after earning my $5 and using it, I had a small amount of points, like 10. My next purchase gave me 30. So I look on my account and it says minus 15. WHAT? How is that possible? I tried to get an answer with their email but all they kept saying was check your account. I called them a few days ago and asked what was the problem, if I had enough points to earn and use a reward which I did, how could I possibly have a negative number?! They told me they had a computer glitch and rectified my account. I take screen shots of my account so I can compare it when needed. So if you have earned points recently and think your numbers are a bit off, and you still have prior emails saying here's your balance, check it against what you think you should have earned and call them if necessary.

On their website, @pd87173809 , Denny’s specifies that it does not apply to certain meals. See the screenshot I posted further down this thread in January.

They refused me all together. I was told no longer gives the AARP discount as of June 2, 2026.

@JasonB275084 Like everything, subject to availability, terms and conditions, etc… It can also be subject to each individual franchisee’s discretion too. If it’s true as a whole, then AARP will need to take down info regarding discounts. I haven’t checked here yet.

Got denied aarp discount at Denny's in Kingman, AZ. Disappointing since Im a new member and haven't gotten any perks yet. Was told that restaurant no longer honors aarp discount.
