Avis car rental: Base vs Final price

Going through AARP shows good rates, but these are not final pricing, which will include fees, and ends up being much more than the ones found through Kayak or other OTA (Online Travel Agencies). Check the upper right corner during reservation and you'll see the very small final price. Very easy to miss and you end up thinking you're paying for the price shown at the beginning.

Yeah. We booked a rental car using Budget and AARP and the $234 total turned into $420. At that point, no other rental car companies had a car available due to college graduations, so we were stuck. It's definitely deceptive.

What they advertise is no were close to the price you pay. Many, many years ago city's started adding extra taxes to hotel, car and who knows what else. Just last week our mayor presented his budget to city council, yea no tax increase. Back on page 27?, there is an increase of hotel, car and whatever of 1%.
