AARP Travel Center powered by Expedia

  I do NOT recommend using AARP Travel Center powered by Expedia. I used AARP Travel Center powered by Expedia to book a flight, on American, and it was a very frustrating experience and I feel ripped off. I made the reservation and then received an email that the ticket could not be issued and I needed to rebook the flight. The airline would not help me, they referred me back to Expedia. Expedia said they could not help me, that they would send an email to the airline asking that they refund my money. Expedia estimated it would be 7-10 days to get my refund and suggested I book through them for a flight on another airline. What?!!!! Why would I give them money again after they already ripped me off.

I feel ripped off as well. I tried to use my credit from an American flight that I had to cancel. When I went to rebook online I checked the price for the flights that I would use the credit but was unable to complete the transaction. I was instructed to call their "customer service" for this and the nightmare began. To cut to the chase, I am through with this so called benefit because I was unable to book with my credit without paying more than the airline booking price (way more), I was told I could not cancel in the 24 hour period usually given for bookings. What wound up happening is I got a hold of a supervisor who cancelled my rebooking because it was way over the airline cost but I totally lost my credit. So I'm out $600. BUYER BEWARE!!!

Serious question, since Ive never used Expedia.  Why not book directly with the airlines? Is it that much cheaper to use them?  Just curious.

Because Expedia was marketed and offered as a "benefit" assuming there were discounts and advantages. People, like me, assume the AARP endorsement is valid.

    I can appreciate that, but is it cheaper to obtain flights by using Expedia as opposed to going through the airlines directly?
