AARP and Hartford Insurance

Hello,

I would like AARP to reconsider using AARP for you members to use. I was happy with them for 5 years then all of a sudden, my premium went up $600+ for the year.
I thought Hartford was supposed to benefit seniors. I was with them for 5 years, perfect driving record, no tickets and a stellar credit score.
They couldn't give me a reason why it went up so much and even the agent I spoke to said it was a substantial increase.
I found it unacceptable and dropped them.

AARP might want to reconsider their relationship with Hartford if they are doing that you your members.

Feel free to reach out to me if you'd like more information.

Thank you

I expected a rate change when I bought my new car, but only AARP The Hartford went up dramatically, compared to every other major insurer I checked with before and after the purchase.

The Hartford quoted an additional 700.00 for carrying the new car for the rest of my existing term(doing a replace, not an add), while six major insurers would charge me less than that increase for a new six month policy starting first day of ownership of the same new car.

The buck certainly had my back during my no fault accident, but not going to continue with them if I can pocket the original amount plus the difference towards my retirement for perceived savings. Even my prior insurer was cheaper on my new car, and they were higher than the other six.

Thomas @ThomasG182139 , I have NEVER had Hartford.

Had Allstate for years. Way TOO HIGH!!! Switched to State Farm from my neighbors telling me about it.

My State Farm is "decreasing" $100+ NEXT MONTH (November 2026). I "bundle" & Roadside Assistance and Rental (apt) are included. Their Beacon app on my Android Cell helped too.

Not sure WHY there is a DIFFERENCE between Insurance Companies for SAME COVERAGE.

Things will NEVER "change" unless they get hit in their pockets = LOSE revenue because people are going elsewhere.

Take care,

The same happened with me starting with the New Year 2025. I too dropped them. Want angers me is AARP, I thought, was here to protect us, but instead seem to be falling into supporting Corp. GREED!  My insurance went up close to $600 dollars more to which I tried with a Hartford rep to change a few things to lower it. HA! $100 less. HA!   I went with another insurance company for the exact coverage as it was in 2024 for almost $900 less. Shame on promoting such a company that turns on those that have used them for many years.

I looked at the Hartford last year - whilst I didn't have an issue with price gouging (they weren't the cheapest for me but they weren't that far off)... I did however note that the price with using AARP or not was identical so no benefit here

Unfortunately I'm very restricted on what home insurance I can use and bundle and the Hartford doesnt insure homes over a certain value - by using State Farm versus others I essentially get car insurance for free bundling so not going to use anyone else for now

i just had my car insurance renewal quote as part of my bundle - for the first time I can remember my premium is lower (I've never been involved in an accident and never had any traffic fines)

I have found Hartford has some of the highest rates and after a few years they increase their rate to existing policy holders substantially.  I have come to realize that the products sold on AARP benefit AARP not the members.

My insurance went up $600. I have no accidents or citations. Hartford gives no explanations. I drive < 75 miles a week. AARP is an unregulated insurance agency that should be investigated by the D.C. Insurance Commissioner. AARP is not looking out for its members.

Somebody is making money at our expense.

I disagree with@ AARP CONSUMERCARE, It's  not like you don't  know about Hartford Auto Insurance , price gouging us seniors. You have been endorsing them for 35years . People have been complaining for awhile. You are suppose to be working to help save seniors money. Hartford pays AARP to use their data and the trust the name gives to seniors.

How is this non profit a nonprofit, when they accept money?  Are they really looking out for us RETIRED PEOPLE ? Why are they now accepting people 50+? Why are non members allowed to be on the site?  If AARP wanted to have their name remain trusted, why is it endorsing companies that prey on the elderly? Have they become rich also off of the elderly?  I really don't see the advantage of a membership.
