@DaveMcK it would have been nice had you sent me a private message saying this instead of on the public forum but since you didn't I will reply in the same way. I wasn't aware that I drug any political comments or issues into this part of AARP??

I "belong" or am a member of AARP, not any particular post or group on here. I do, however, comment in other areas.

That's why I come here myself and other areas away from the political Zone, to get away from it and the drama.

Happy Monday everybody, stay happy and healthy! 😁💃

@sunluvngal  I apologize for signaling out your post to send out a reminder to all members of the Front Porch both old and new. I have noticed suttle comments coming into other posts so I thought it was a good time for a group reminder and yes in retrospect it should have been totally neutral.

I became a member of AARP online in January 2009 and one of the groups was the Front Porch. All group's had moderators and the Front Porch was very neutral back then. Over the years AARP drop moderators so I have tried to keep the group free of political debate.

I am so happy you are here and hope you will become a major poster for a long time.  We have so many followers that enjoy coming here for the contact but prefer not to join in the posting. In these times of a staying at home order most people need some contact with others and a virtual mug of coffee and sweet roll.

Be safe and stay well.

Dave

Hi there, Porch Peeps!

Welcome to the beginning of another “packed full of adventures” week. JK!

I’m looking at my calendar and seeing this vast expanse of white. I need to fill in things like “do laundry, call for prescriptions, call so and so, cook salmon,” and other earthshattering activities like that so it looks like I have something to do.

For a change, I did my Monday post office run. HA! 😸Again I was the only customer in the PO.

My VISA bill should arrive today. That will be exciting since the only thing I do in these times is order online! Thank goodness the coffee arrived last week. I was actually running low and had to buy some at the grocery store!

If the weather cooperates, @LaDolceVita … I’d like to soak in that sun requirement. Glad you now have options for some masks. No matter which ones we use, the summer heat will be making our faces melt underneath the masks. UGH!

@LydiaN586309 …Unfortunately some places around here and online have sold out of Vitamin C. I love the gummies and have been using them since the whole virus thing started. I switched to them when I saw that they were cheaper than the Airborne gummies that I was using. Now I’m back to the Airborne since I could get them…this time the Airborne ones are the Elderberry. I still like the regular Vitamin C gummies, but any port in a storm.

Hoping tropical storm Arthur doesn’t bother any of you.

Monday afternoon 70* and sunshine.

We’ve finally had our first black fly hatching, 2 weeks of Maine waves has begun. If you appear in this neck of the woods, the townsfolk won’t be saying hi when waving, They’ll be waving the noseeum’s away.

Tiny flying insects that leave big welts for life. Best news Re: white masks, nose and mouth and chin are safe, from attack.

Eyes are not👎🏻 Took an hour to lose one that flew in, it expired in my eye.

This week I will finish the New camp owners “thunderbox”, they can buy their own bucket, and no doubt gold-plated seat.🤣

Almost have finished the jig for fingerjointing the 4-sided Walnut box. And inletting hinge for plywood or walnut cover to attach whatever they end up using to access contents of bucket. Or else they “need” to buy more wood🤣.

Signed and witnessed signature on design concept, says I’m on strike after box is done. Their bumper sticker , and occupation was my clue to get signed/witnessed contract, extras are extra Cost. Changes are extra, contract law is wonderful🤣😎.

Formerly married to Doctorate holding educator , union representative, with minor in contract law.👍

@DaveMcK

I’ve done the increase Photo folder size and been told it wasn’t needed. It just magically started working again. Gremlins in the machinery is always an option in all things AARP. Have been here since 2003? Subject to change, despite the 2008 that seemingly everyone joined during a major upgrade in AARP programming from Prospero, to their own coding to be more FAcebook like.

Enjoy all

Drats, summer is here today, warm and humid.   I really was enjoying the cool temps we had in April and up until now in May.  Wearing a a mask will be even more suffocating.  Cleaning out a closet I found some 3M masks still in their package so now I have OPTIONS 😎 I really thought the face shield would be the thing but my eyesight is bad anyway, and worse with the shield.  Perhaps I can wear the shield with mask for grocery shopping as I already know the store and should be able to navigate.  For things that require clear vision I will wear mask only?   Decisions!  😆

Hi folks.   I want to remind you to get out there and get some sun.   I am trying to get 15 unprotected minutes a day to be able to get enough vitamin D.  There is some indication that vitamins C & D will help immune system with respiratory viruses.  Supplements do not help me without actual sun exposure.

Good morning, Porch Peeps!

I guess we all might agree that the weekend just wasn't long enough, but thank god it's Monday and we get to start another week together!  Yippie!  Needless to say, despite having worked another double shift last night, I'm feeling rather perky this morning.

OIPXI8NGSR8.jpg

Yep, that was me when I got off work and was able to de-mask myself.  After so many hours, those masks can be breath taking--literally. But once in my car, the mask is off and so am I!

Today, I've got a few errands to run--pharmacy, post office, maybe grocery store.  You know--the weekly chore.  And then I look forward to my early afternoon nap before having to boot up and head back to the ranch (work I mean).  Smile.

Ay, @LaDolceVita, I agree with your suggestion about getting as much vitamin D and C as possible.  But unfortunately, we're still not getting many super sunny days here.  So I am supplemently with mega doses of Vit D and C on a daily basis.  So far so good!  But as soon as our weather becomes less cool and murky and a little bit more summer like, I intend to spend my days in the sun--working in my yard, cleaning out my garage, and just sitting outside and enjoying those days we all look forward to.

Anyway, I gotta get started on my day.  And here's a little somethin' for all porch peepers starting their Monday:

Be well and stay healthy, Peepers!

@LaDolceVita - I won't be getting any sun today in the Chicago area. We're getting rain again which we have had quite a bit of the past few days. The Fox River is climbing over its banks. Everything is sure pretty and green though so I guess we should be thankful for that. Have a wonderfu day and enjoy that sunshine.

Afternoon all on this Sunny Sunday temp 67*.

The last pile of snow has melted, can actually reach the maple sapling that is going bye bye today, after I sharpen my chain.

Have only seen local (NH & QC) RV’s in town, had to give them the news of they can’t get there from here without 4x4 and comealongs.🤣

Good news , they realized they were going to park in friends yard for 3 weeks until road stabilizes. And still require the quarantine.

With warmth in temp’s, I can finally play in the garage. Need to make a “thunderbox “ for old camp.

New owners bought and brought enough walnut up for one. Very fancy for a place to 💩 6 months out of the year, in the bathroom.
Versus suiting up to use the outhouse, or attempting to use plumbing in Winter without Central heating.

They liked mine but, hemlock wasn’t fancy enough. $900 walnut boards vs free recycled, is a difference.

Guess I’m putting new blade in table saw, and pumping out some new tunes.🤣

Hope all are remaining sane, time to play.

GOOD MORNING AND A HAPPY FRIDAY MAY 15TH TO YOU ALL!! 💃

It's the time of year here in Lake Havasu, AZ that the weather will be warm, warmer, hot until September.  🙂  Unlike a few here, i LOVE this time of year. Although as of today the lockdown here in AZ has been lifted to a degree it's still a little less enjoyable this year, what with this new virus going around, but that's life and we just have to make the best of it.  BUT, i can at least enjoy the warm sunny weather!  🙂

I hope EVERYBODY "out there" is happy and well!

Good morning to everyone on the Front Porch on Friday May 15, 2020.  We are looking at a high temp of 72 and partly cloudy skies changing to sunny this afternoon. Saturday will be the same.

Another day locked in with my loving wife Mary. We have found the Hallmark movies on HBO Channel and look forward to seeing another one this afternoon.

Our Supreme Court cancelled our Governor's Lockdown Order so the state is in turmoil. Several countries including ours passed their own Stay in Place orders. I fired off some emails and phone calls to some of our idiot politicians who sued our Governor and the Supreme Court who created this mess. Several bars where elbow to elbow drunks within hours of the ruling. As of now there is no plan for  transitioning after this ruling. Gt

Back to trying to live together in these trying times as Seniors in our mid 70's.

Hoping everyone out there are safe and doing well! Have a peaceful weekend.

@DaveMcK, yes, have been reading about the WI ruling.  What?  No phased opening?  No transition plan?  Just a free-for-all?  All you can do is keep on doing what is best for you.  Even blocking a stay-at-home order cannot make you disregard it and common sense.  Virginia begins phase 1 reopening today with the exception of northern VA (DC metro area).  Even though my county is technically considered part of northern VA (on the outer limits), we are not included in the delay.  However, noticed a lot of peeps on the My Neighbor app are concerned about a possible influx of 'neighbors' from nearby 'delayed' counties.

It is heartening that businesses are reopening and peeps can go back to work and make money.  However, I don't see me making any drastic social changes and everyone still has to do it responsibly.

@sunluvngal, frankly, I can tolerate the heat (sans humidity) better than the freezing cold.  But record changes and polar vortexes put me on the wrong side of the country for this spring. 🥶

Extraordinary times, but most Americans have stepped up to the plate and continue to step up to the plate and do the right thing.

Now back to sweeping the pollen off my front deck porch.  (Funny how you can always depend on that no matter what the temps are. 😑)

Hello folks!  Lost internet for 3 days and quickly ran out of data on my phone.  BUT I have purchased 4 rolls of wax paper and 2 bottles of peroxide.  I could not find these items for weeks.   I have also had a hair cut, good thing, it is getting hot.  No sign of the library opening much to my regret.

I went to the grocery store last Wednesday in the early AM and put on my handkerchief mask topped by a face shield.   A man walking to his car started laughing out loud.  I didnt mind too much.  After about a half an hour I had to remove the mask, could not breathe. Have trouble seeing with the face shield too.  No fun grocery shopping.   Otherwise all is well here.

@LaDolceVita, kudos to you for wearing your face shield in spite of some yahoo laughing.  I wear my mask proudly when out and frankly, I make it an obvious point to go waaaay out of my way to avoid those who would rather be rude and spew their cooties on me.  Yes, it's sometimes hard to breathe and hot, but until this thing has flatlined out of here or I am vaccinated, I will continue to make my statement.

@Frozenoem, I can imagine the signs in the storefronts. 😁  Kudos to them, too, for making their point loud and clear lest there be any confusion.

Closest to an actual post without a ban on me, would be at local visitor welcome center, of your here.

It had an overlay of your here.

Your entering an area of 17.6 Million acres of woodlands, and lakes.

Your last gas, restaurant, hardware , with cellphone coverage is possibly here. Suggest only masks in dealing with local flora, fauna, and humans or animals, otherwise ...

Remember you are here🤣

Have a pleasant day!

Good Evening, Peeps,

@DaveMcK , @MsStretch …Since there is no direction from a “central source,” many states are in utter chaos. I feel bad for small businesses and Lord knows I need my hair cut, but you won’t get me to go anywhere if there are no regulations in place. Some nuts who would follow a certain leader off a cliff, are interpreting these slow openings as a signal to make it a free for all and act irresponsibly.

@LaDolceVita …Yeah, the laughing man could be laughing from 6 feet under soon, but you can smile down at him.

@Frozenoem …no one is allowed in our grocery stores without a mask. Township police are happy to respond if there is a problem with a customer.

@LydiaN586309 …been there with AARP and not being able to post from my computer. It just happens…POOF! And after several days it comes back. No rhyme or reason.

Glad you tested negative for COVID-19! Wahoo!

Yesterday I drove to my friend’s house and dropped off a gift for her birthday. It’s all of about 13 miles round trip, but it’s the farthest I’ve been in ages and it felt like I was off on an adventure. I’m laughing as I set out thinking, do I remember how to get there; it’s been so long. I left the gift on her step and then called her. She opened her garage door and came out. We were about 10 feet away and I had my mask on. It was so nice to see a friend in person and talk to them if only for a few minutes. She is a person who is always on the go and this has been so hard on her to stay home. Hope I cheered her up a little on her birthday. When this is all over, there are going to be so many lunches and birthdays to catch up with.

Any birthdays coming up with any of you all?

Cheers!Cheers!

Good morning Dave and Mrs McK from Fabulous Las Vegas.

I watched in true horror as the court took this action. I totally support your efforts to curtail the wide openness some are demanding.

We currently have several "business owners" suing our Governor; so far not heard by the Court. I would like to believe our Court will take in all factors (e.g., casinos bring huge crowds; we lost 53 people less than 3 years ago and were all traumatized; we suffered most dramatic depression in the 80s and 90s than any other municipality; our mayor was elected on name only and is a little nuts imho).

Many of us had advance warning and have been plugging away at not opening "Las Vegas" before it is safe. We, like y'all, but 4x; most of us Seniors worked the hospitality business here (the main biz) and dealt with economic and health issues (SARS did come to Vegas). Now we're trying to do what's right and have for the most part stayed in our small apartments and avoided contact that could spread the current virus.

Our Governor has so far stood strong. We'll watch closely whether our Superior Court or Governor fail or succeed in standing strong.

#StaySafe @DaveMcK and Mrs McK

Good evening to everyone on the Front Porch on Thursday May 14, 2020.

We had rain overnight and cloudy skies and 54* here at 10:30 AM. We have an expected high of 69 and a possible shower this afternoon. Tomorrow should be sunny with a high of 73.

My wife is taking her sister to the University Hospital for a test this afternoon.

Hello, Porch Peeps,

It’s Thursday already. My, how time flies when you are having (no) fun.

I was bringing the trash cans back from the street this AM, highlight of my day, and saw my neighbor doing some weeding. She and her husband are usually gone for the months of June through October to their place on PEI. They will be home here this summer since no non-residents are allowed on the island even if they own property. They may go for a few weeks in August if the island opens.

Must be tree week on my street. Yesterday there was a lot of commotion 2 doors up as they took out this huge-trunked tree from behind the house. The tree company is named Monster Tree, and he trucks were huge. They even had a little front loader type vehicle to bring some of the branches back from the yonder part of the property to the chipper truck. This morning, down the block, another tree company was buzzing away at someone’s trees and across the street from that, yet another tree company was at work on another property. Makes me wonder if I should call my tree people. LOL!

Waiting for an UPS delivery that has to be signed for today…I kind of doubt that will happen. The last time the guy said I didn’t have to sign for it. Whew! Tomorrow I will have to sign the renewal service contract for my AC/heater when they come for the maintenance. Not looking forward to that.

Warmer weather is coming. Right now it is 72 and gorgeous .Tomorrow they say 86. I’ll believe that when it happens. 😺

I hope everyone is staying safe!

Just waiting to see.jpg

Good evening to everyone on the Front Porch on May, 2020.

We had a great day after temperatures below freezing last night and again tonight so I covered some of the plants again. I was able to fix a Mother's day last night for Mary. The weather kept me from grilling out last night.

@Frozenoem Unfortunately we were not able to visit Camden, Maine or our Timeshare in Brownsville, Vermont. I have decided to feature some Micro Coffee Roasters like Coffee On The Porch in Camden and Door County Coffee here in Wisconsin.

I would like to Welcome all of our new locked down posters to the Front Porch!

@DaveMcK   The picture of the corgy going to do #2 is down right priceless.  I saved it and I am still laughing.

Just catching up on all the posts this month.  @MsStretch  I too am in servitude to 8 chickens, 1 (cranky) cat and 2 old people.  Will take the Doris Day position and not say how many dogs.  Right now everyone is behaving so it is not too bad.

Welcome to the newcomers, nice to have input from more areas of the country.  Will be summer here in NW Ga today,  first hot day since March.

Morning all 45*, cloudy windy and Spring will officially hit in 4 days with temps hitting 60-70*.

I’ll just be happy when I can stop lighting fires in the stove.👍

Only news on quarantine for people from away, Foxtrot tourists they will be avoiding my area of the state. Black flies will be hatching, and dining upon them.👍

Social distancing, masks are being used by 20’s and older thankfully for now. Most are unanimous on that, go into a store without, you may be unpleasantly surprised.

MOST Stores, bars and restaurants have there signs up and I’d be banned by AARP if I posted them, rather strong language. Specifically addressed to people from AWAY🤣. Samuel L. Jackson would be pleased👍.

Only have been tempted to wound one person in 3 months, a flatlander. Got too close, unmasked and sprayed when he spoke. He was removed by a 16 year old, when they noticed my cane coming up, and spikes being deployed, within 3 seconds🤣.

Courts are still hashing it out, and I’d still like June 11 for opening date. Like the quarantine of 2 weeks for visitors, and would still like to keep our curve flattened.

Hope all have a good day, and stay away. Might be lack of sleep for the latter comment, all nighters mess me up for awhile.

Good morning, Everybody!

I'm enjoying a quiet Saturday so far.  After lounging and sleeping  most of the rainy day yesterday, I finally had enough energy to rise early today and get some things done like hauling out the trash and stirring around in my recycling bin.

Also, since real early (around 6am) this morning, I have watched as birds of all kinds have flown in to my feeders only to find them empty.   So I  went out and cleaned and refilled all of the feeders and one by one and sometimes in pairs, my feathered friends have returned--all except the beautiful woodpecker who was the first to arrive today.  I doubt he'll  be back today.

Yesterday,  the health department called and left a message on my answering machine phone to call them for my coronavirus test results.  Of course, I  felt a little anxious.  But I  called and after waiting for what seemed like too long a time, the woman on the other end of the line said my results were negative and she went on to say to keep practicing...blah, blah, blah.  Just will keep doing and being safe.  Breathe.

I've been watching a lotta TV and when I'm  not watching it, it's watching me.  If you know what I mean.  lol. And for whatever reason, I can't access the AARP community forums online.  But thank goodness for my cell phone.  It's not smart, but it is capable.😊 lol

So porch peepers, take care of yourselves and enjoy the weekend.  Whether it's hot or cold, rainy or dry, or we're feeling upbeat or blah,  we have much to be thankful for cuz at least we're still here!

Still a tender spot in my soul for dogs - Rottweiler, Labs, Dutch Shepherds, Malinois and my last forever rescue had to go to Virginia when my health hit the crapper. She was adopted by another experienced handler to keep his aging DS company.

Never say never on dogs, if Doctor’s ever give me treatment will get another I hope👍

Now, need to crank up the tunes and rock out, maturing yes but, not dead yet👍

What will it be AC/DC or Hair, anything but, Frank Sinatra.

I have Thunderstruck by 2CELLOS (the live version) on one of my epic playlists I listen to on walkabouts/runarounds with the furkids.  We do some serious 'attacks' and 'battles' with 'marauding hordes of invaders'.  (It's amazing what a little hard instrumental rock can do for the imagination.)

THUNDER!  THUNDER!  Rock on!  🤘
