AARP member home page no option just to pay for a year

I only want to pay each year. I just went in to aarp.org to pay and there is no option - you are demanding on that home page that I sign up for autopayments - I don't want to nor will I do that.

I used my bank to pay the 15.00 and have no way to get a quick confirmation that the 15.00 went to where it was supposed to go.

You either have 80 year olds designing your payment system or 15 year olds.

As you can telll I'm frustrated. I went through this last year and asked for something on the member home page.

That link does not have on that page any renewal option without automatic renewal. I had to enroll in automatic renewal, then go to my AARP Account, and log in with my credentials to get to the part of my AARP Profile where I could cancel the automatic renewal. This practice of AARP trying to trap members into automatic renewals is one of the major turn-offs of AARP membership. Not a good look in the eyes of new members either.

@JohnS791596 Hi John, I'm so sorry for the frustration this has caused. Here's a link that includes the standard rate of membership of $16 for one year: https://aarp.org/onlinerenew

I reviewed your account and your membership was renewed for one year on July 18. It is active and valid thru 8/31/2024 and is not opted in for automatic renewal. Confirm your membership details here: Show Me My AARP Account Information I'm always here to help if you need anything!

What a rotten trick having a separate page for yearly renewal. I wouldn't have even known about if I hadn't done a Google search. I will be filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

I hope you did file a complaint. This is a deceptive and manipulative practice.

Hello @RWHeadley thanks for your membership. Periodically, AARP offers a variety of prices to provide the best value. I see you just renewed your membership today and your new card should arrive within 3-4 weeks. I'll take your feedback and pass it along to upper management to be reviewed and addressed. If you have any questions, I'm here to help. - Daniela R.

Well, then i guess I made a $15 contribution that I didn't want to. What a mess.

Do you know how I can get my $15 back? I don't even know where I got the $15 figure from, but hey I've made it to 75!

Deliver by * Paid to Amount * Confirmation No.*  Paid from * Status * Category
08/09/2023 * AAA Oregon/Idaho * $15.00 * V7JM7-SY0F0  *PERSONAL * In Process * Insurance

That one time payment link should be on the home page and any other page that is for making payments.

@JohnS791596 Thanks for getting back to me, John. That payment info that you provided looks like it was sent to AAA. AARP is not affiliated with AAA. We recommend reaching out to AAA for further assistance with that $15 payment.

Hello, @JohnS791596. I experienced the same, when I renewed my membership in March of this year, I gave my pertinent information, cc and all, took me to confirmation page, and I noticed, below the autopay, there's an opt-out. So, I only paid for a one-year. Not sure how you want to go about getting a membership, either way, but that's how I did the one-year. Not a fan of auto-pay either. If I, however, experience this auto-pay next year, upon renewal, with no other choice that AARP may have set up to only have auto-pay, I will just wait for the flier that's wedged in the mailer coupons, and mail it in for one year. I am hoping that will not be the case, and not have to deal with snail mail. I hope, in your case, this gets rectified. 🙂

A quicker way to cancel the automatic renewal option is to log in to your AARP account with your credentials, go to your Profile and cancel it from there. They don't make life easy for those of us who only want to commit to one year at a time.
