BORN: Age 50 - 1973, Age 60 - 1963, Age 70 - 1953, Age 80 - 1943, Age 90 - 1933, Age 100 - 1923.

Neve had either of them but, every Friday when we had a home game there was a parade downtown. Bands marching, cheerleaders cheering and pretty girls in convertibles. Football is king in the south.

The store I worked at had a cotton candy machine. We would give it away. After the parade we were busy as all get out.

 I wasn't much for pep rallies,no high school spirit,but loved the bonfires.. I really enjoy my wood stove which is a smaller more controlled bonfire if you think about it.. ( ok.. That was a stretch )

    ….not such a stretch - one of the reasons that I enjoy Autumn is that it is the “time to light a fire in the fireplace” season!   Nothing beats raking leaves on a blustery day, chatting with neighbors, puttering around in the garage, then coming indoors to settle down in front of an open fire.

Only 2 good things about ranking leaves. One, jumping on the pile then having to rank again. This would go on until everyone was tired, then came the best part. Burning them, loved that smell. Can't do that anymore. Have to bag them and put on curb, I hate bagging leaves.

Never rode one - nothing so nice or build for this purpose was in my stomping ground as a kid.  

But reading about it here - it is a wonder that so many of you survived.

We didn't have this one. Had the round one, everyone would push like the devil, jump on and not hold on to the bars to see who was the last one standing. Wasn't real smart but a hold lot of fun.

II might be wrong but I seem to recall that the "kool kids" didn't playon this so naturally I did.. Remember it well..

   I remember this too.  We had two on the school playground along with a couple of seesaws, sliding boards, monkey bars, swings, and tether balls.

   This, as well as monkey bars, seesaws and tether balls have been banned from public playgrounds around here for quite some time now…..geez, but we sure had fun!

Did anybody ever get an apple? I sure didn't but got plenty wet trying. Another game that I never won at was the "cake walk". What other games did you have at your schools Halloween Carnival?

Never once did I see someone’s head pop up with an apple clenched in their teeth!
 

…and I had forgotten about the Cake Walk.  We had that too!  I remember the winner receiving a bag of treats during our Halloween Carnival - not a cake.

    I also remember “Pin the wart on the Witch”, and another game played with a blindfold called “Dracula’s Dinner”. I still recall being led, while blindfolded, up to a table and being told that Dracula had prepared a feast for me.  I was just so delightfully creeped out as I touched ‘witch’s eyeballs’ (oiled grapes), ‘Frankenstein’s fingers’ (link sausages), ‘Zombie brains’ (mashed potatoes’, and such!

 I could never get an apple out of the tub.. Proof positive that my mouth wasnt nearly as big as my sister said it was..

     I never nabbed an apple either - but I remember it being kind of like playing bumper cars with our heads with the added bonus of getting soaking wet - and I loved every minute of it! 🎃

Actually,I just replaced my very very old HVAC unit in my basement that had one of these old types.  The unit never got ran very much being in a daylight basement so it lasted and lasted - actually still OK when I replaced it - thought I better go ahead and do it because the new ones with the new type refrigerant cost more.  Now I understand that this conversion might be delayed by the new Administration.  Oh well, its done now.

The only problem that I ever had with this thermostat was that it was too high for me since I am very short - so I had to have a ladder to adjust it.  But I am use to things like that - every room has a ladder - not too high but does give that extra 12”.

      Your post reminded me of a ritual at the Parochial school that I attended so many years ago.  From First through Eighth grade, we were assigned our place in line by height.  I was always first. 
 (Even when I inhaled and held my breath so that maybe, just once, I’d be second in line, but nope - those nuns weren’t having it. 🥴).  Today, when inhaling, I am a towering 5’4”. 👍

 Oh yes,back in the days when we worked on our own vehicles.. I still have one or two rattling around in the bottom of my tool box..

    ….back when everyone tinkered with their cars and every garage had a shop manual for every car that they owned as well as a Chiltons Manual for good measure.

 Still one of the most reliable can openers out there.. I never had much use for a cork screw.. (isnt wine all twist off tops now? my iced tea is)

I still have the Better Homes and Gardens 'New Cookbook' shown. It is not-so-new anymore, just like me. LOL!
