Well Denese @WebWiseWoman , I had to "skip" Grantchester TONIGHT as my old lady (2006 Hyundai Elantra) needed a jumpstart. Had been dead since Friday & my next door neighbors helped out at 9pm. Then I had to drive to keep the charge. Got back & brake light stayed on = aha, reason for dead battery maybe. Anyhow, a teen disconnected the NEGATIVE battery cable to hopefully save on charge. Light is now off. Mechanic only works Mondays thru Thursdays. So 6am ALARM set to call as soon as they open. Hoping they can work on it tomorrow, I need groceries.
Sweet Dreams & I know you ENJOYED Grantchester.

Hi, Nicole,
So sorry to hear about your "old lady" ๐ I gave up driving just before COVID so haven't had to worry about Bessie (my old reliable jeep) or spend money on that at least.
Actually watched the entire season already; episode 2 was okay but next week (episode 3) be sure to watch; it's very emotional and endearing, imo.
Our PBS (VegasPBS.org) rebroadcasts Grantchester (or whatever the current Masterpiece program is) early the next morning (1 AM PT), then again on Thursday (11:15 PM), and finally on Fridays (3:00 AM), so perhaps your local does too?
Let me know if you want a recap of epi 2.
Sleep well and fingers-crossed for the "old lady" to be up and running like a Swiss clock - very inexpensively, tomorrow!

โก๏ธ[*** CORRECTED [Saturday 6/21/25]
Denese @WebWiseWoman , I just remembered our boy is back tomorrow. Lol, sad when we get old & forgetful. I wonder IF this "luv interest" will work out? I wonder IF this goes on (went on) in real life or all this s.x is just to spice up the series. I thought celibate until married for priests
Any OTHER Grantchester Fans out there? We would luv to hear from you!!!
Take Care,

HAPPY dance time = Grantchester is BACK on PBS here in Virginia TONIGHT!!! ๐
Any OTHER fans out there?
Now, NO ONE has replaced Sidney (the 1st one) and I do get to see him AGAIN & AGAIN thanks to Prime adding PBS Drama to their service.
Take care,
Nicole ๐ต

Hi, Nicole!
Just an aside (and promo for PBS), I donate $5 per month to local PBS station and have access to all the seasons of Grantchester (and many other great shows) via PBS Passport.
Only $0.99 less than PBS/Masterpiece on Prime but same shows available and a worthy cause, imho...
Counting down to tonight!

Yes, @WebWiseWoman - having PASSPORT access on PBS is awesome. At the moment I have no spare change as my Retirement Social Security is it each month. NOT complaining, grateful. I use the FREE Android PBS app to watch certain shows. NOT a fan of sitting in front of TV, so have NOT had one for over a decade. But for Grantchester, I will sit for that hour. ๐
Enjoy!!!

Same here, Nicole; SS sole income. And agree with sitting in front of the TV; own one but with Prime and PBS Passport, haven't actually turned it on in a year (can't afford cable tv costs; use retirement community wifi for free so that's the only reason I can afford the Prime and Passport subscriptions).
Also, qualified for Lifeline (income based) and several of those cell service providers provide reduced AMZ prime membership ("Prime Access" - currently $6.99/month).
Income table to qualify for Lifeline for anyone who might want to check into it:
Now, getting closer to Grantchester return! โค๏ธ

Denese @WebWiseWoman , lol - some months I have NO idea how it is going to workout. My daughter INSISTED in 2018 I go on her T-mobile Family Plan. Was a fight as I was still working & determined to NOT "burden" her. Well, NOW in 2025, SO GLAD she insisted. As far as cable, nope & doing the BASIC prime to use on those days there is ICE on my hill here in Virginia. Up until LAST WINTER, for the 1st time me & the other old lady (2006 Hyundai Elantra) could NOT make it up our hill. Thankful for the kindness of strangers (wife insisted husband use his truck) to take me home & groceries. ๐ The next day, I walkeed down my hill praying I didnot fall to see IF car would make it home. It did & swore to NEVER drive AGAIN when weatherman says ICE.
So Prime for those CANNOT DRIVE days keeps me from putting my VERY OLD foot up my neighbor above my Studio Apt you know what. ๐
When I make it back to Florida where my daughter is, I am NOT sharing any walls, ceilings, floors or parking lots with anyone. Too old to NOT sleep at nights or take an Old Lady's Nap.

Watched Gaspar Noรฉ's movie Vortex (2021) last night. This hit home.
A retired psychiatrist with dementia and a struggling author with a heart condition live their final days together in an apartment.
This film deals with an aging couple coming to terms with their deaths and the impending doom that awaits them. In short, it's a film about old age, dementia, separation & eventual death. When the brain disintegrates before the heart.
Gaspar Noรฉ's movies aren't generally for the faint of heart & are rather unusual. This one was filmed in Split screen following 2 characters. & in French, though well subtitled.

Season 3 of COBRA is on PBS Passport. (Not sure when it will be televised or if itโs on the free app.) This is a UK drama series where top level government officials are fending off threats to national security, and as a result, dealing with the problems that arise in their personal lives.

2 comments (5/17/24) Lol, nope - was in French I am guessing with ENGLISH captions. I just DO NOT understand WHY the "version" of whatever PBS decides to air in the USA cannot be spoken in English. Anyway, glad I got to see it and now know it is NOT one for me.

@SpringIsHereVA I really wanted to watch The Paris Murders, but when I saw it was with English subtitles, I gave up. Itโs too hard to keep up with the subtitles. I do like the foreign tv shows that have English (usually British English) voice over, e.g. Money Heist on Netflix (Spanish with English voice over).

@SpringIsHereVA Wish I had something new to share but my life is mostly chores ๐ followed by 20 minute sauna. My husband has begun crying through most of it, as we moved the seat up for more heat exposure.
Have you watched Maryland on PBS, looks interesting. I am still watching Max Miler on Youtube most every night. Food and history in about 15 minutes and it hits the spot.

My favorite movies about horses are Seabiscuit and Secretariat, both heartwarming stories about unlikely heroes.
These days, I will no longer watch the races on tv. In recent years, many horses are dying at the tracks, all because of the $$$$$$. ๐ข

White Collar on Netflix. This a tv series with six seasons. I just watched the first three episodes, and Iโm hooked!
A young convicted criminal, whose expertise includes forgery, art theft, etc., is let out of prison early to help the FBI solve white collar crimes, hopeful of getting a new lease on life, all while having his own agenda to be free again.
So you have a mix of crime solving with a big sense of humor. Quite a treat, and itโs TV-14 rated. ๐ The characters (and the actors) are quite charming and charismatic, with a good dose of Yin and Yang going on. Great entertainment and fun.

American Rust (on Amazon Prime) is now in its second season. My wife and I have enjoyed it.
Well written, good acting...
Set in a small rust belt town in Pennsylvania, chief of police Del Harris takes on an investigation when the son of the woman he loves is accused of murder. (fiction, based on a novel by Phillpp Meyer
