(12/3/22) Hello Everyone!

I live in Cave Spring, Virginia which they insist on calling Roanoke, Virginia sometimes. 🙄

We are a suburb in Roanoke and you could NOT pay me to live in Roanoke. High everything - homelessness, crime, housing, gas, food and so on.

That is what the government here calls Roanoke City. My area Roanoke County.

I retired July 2020 and hoping to "return" to Melbourne, Florida where my only child lives. We both left Florida in 2015. She accepted a job in Arlington, Virginia and I went to Manassas, Virgina. She didnot like Virginia and returned to Florida in 2018.

I would luv to hear from folks who live in Virgina, use to live here, have family here, visited here or would luv to move here.

(12/24/22) Hi @MsStretch , the 62° request was in some online thing I read from a power company, not mine.

Lol, my thermostat is now at 65°, hot flashes are on vacation = freezing. When they kick in, thermostat is lowered as I wear thermal everything including socks. Start to sweat. 😱 So it is a whatever does not make me sweat and/or increase my bill and hopefully help out with getting power back on for my neighbors.

I guess it takes losing power for "selfish" folks to do the right thing. NO warming centers here. They called themselves making the library down the hill one TODAY 11am to 6pm. 🙄

In Florida we had several emergency shelters open when a hurricane was heading our way.

I do not know what I would do IF I lost power. Summer, I am fine, but TONIGHT!!! 😱

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Appalachian Power says as of late Saturday evening, power was restored for nearly 50,000 customers.

However, Albemarle, Amherst, Floyd, Nelson counties have an estimated restoration of Monday night. Bedford, Botetourt, Campbell, Franklin, Henry, Patrick, Pittsylvania and Roanoke Counties have estimated restorations of Tuesday night.

They are saying MAYBE Tuesday for my area. Oh my goodness, those poor folks who do not have a generator or fireplace or a place to run to.

(12/24/22) Received both an email and text from my power company. Hmmm, they need to have the cops come to my neighborhood for all the lighted Christmas trees I see through all these windows, outside lights on and the mansions with their outside light displays. I don't know how folks can do this knowing thousands of us do not have power. GRATEFUL mine is still on and freezing my you know what off with thermostat at 62° (what they requested). Here in CAVE SPRING, 18° (feels like 5°), 14mph wind (howling outside). Screenprint of text attached with this post. Nicole 😤

Who is recommending 62°?  

Oh wait, I just went to the Appalachian Power website and read this: Storm and Outage Details.

Looks like VA got the hardest hit of their tri-state service area.  You're right, peeps need to cut off the Christmas lights. Bummer, but they are not crucial to safety.

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Fillmore Place, an assisted living facility in Petersburg, was placed under review by the state after failing an inspection in December 2021. Three months after the facility’s June deadline passed, evidence mounted that the facility still wasn’t cleaning up its act.

Finally, in mid-September 2022, the Virginia Department of Social Services (DSS) determined the facility needed to close and residents needed to be moved. Virginia officials are now addressing concerns about how the conditions got so bad and why other assisted living facilities across the state are facing challenges too.

Personally I do not care if someone is drunk or high as long as they are not putting other people at risk. If they want to kill themselves, not my problem!.

Why Virginia might change DUI laws to include marijuana consumption limits

One of the policy options being talked about is repealing or amending Virginia’s current prohibition on stops, searches and seizures based solely on the odor of marijuana.

Right now, police can not stop someone just because they smell marijuana in a vehicle since those 21 and older can legally possess up to one ounce in Virginia.

(MONDAY 12/5/22 12:14pm EST) Just saw this on my Google News Feed and NOT surprised. Folks NOT wearing masks and on top of each other in WALMART when I go. Not me, mask on and "keep your distance from me" = 64, had ALL 5 Moderna Shots and yearly Flu shot.

COVID rates creep back up in Virginia. COVID-19 is making a comeback just in time to plague the holiday party circuit.

What's happening: Hospitalizations in Virginia were up 40% last week, per the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association.

The article says mainly the far southwest of VA is seeing high levels.  I live on the other side of VA -- the northeast. 

Here is a handy-dandy guide from the VHHA to see how your region is doing.

For sure masks are rare these days, but I have never liked people breathing down my neck and cramping my space.  Often I will use a shopping cart, whether I need it or not, as a kind of barrier between me and other peeps, pushing or pulling it behind me as needed.

The cost of the show is free however donations will be accepted. The youth group of Avalon Church of Christ will also be selling concessions.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Once again, a popular New Year’s Eve event has been canceled.

First Night Virginia, the second oldest First Night celebration in the United States, posted on its website that this year’s event will not be taking place.

At this time, the reasoning for the cancellation is not clear.

The annual event, which started in 1982, has not been held since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
