MORNING ROLL CALL! ! ! OCTOBER -DECEMBER 2020 CLOSED
Goodbye, September.
Goodbye, summer. You were one for the books, and it makes my heart actually ache to think about how full of adventures you were and how much Iโm going to miss you.
Goodbye to surviving my first big hurricane. Cheers to making it work and cheers to (please?) never doing it again.
Goodbye, butter pecan coffee from Dunkinโ Donuts. I was late to the game in discovering you, so our time together was short-lived. I look forward to the many summers we will spend together in the future.
Goodbye to a month that taught me, over and over again, that I am way stronger than I think, but that I canโt do everything alone. That itโs okay to ask for help. That taking a break is so okay. That inviting people into your mess is so, so good.
Hello, October.
Hello, FALL. With your pumpkin spiced everything and cooler (maybe?) nights.
Hello, kickoff of the most magical three months of the year.
Hello, doing more creative writing for fun. You fell off my to-do list this summer (ahem, year) and I really missed you.
Hello, bonfires and apple cider and pumpkin carving. Iโm ready for you.
Hello to more adventures, more strength, and more love, always. Hello October!

53* and pouring rain, decided to go up country to old camp, instead of playing on board๐คฃ.
New owner instruction on waste removal from outhouse 3-holer.
His theory was correct, steps not quite.
First step move outhouse on tracks.๐คฃThen check water tower for water, connect hoses (test). Add gas and ignite 250 gallon tank.Let burn with camp windows closed๐คฃ. 1 hour later extinguish flames with water and stir . Then and only then pull outhouse back in place and ignore for 10 years.
How to keep FERC, LURC ,Historical Society happy with your insurance company and nature preserve. His major question same as mine what historical significance is an outhouse - built in 1920.
Hope all enjoy the day.

WT discombobulated, leave for a couple of days and return to somewhere other than Kansas, as I tap my ruby slippers.
It looked normal last night?
Guess weโll see, after getting used to it for awhile. Hope it improves on laptop.

Holy cow! This really bites! All the posts are mixed up and "discombobulated" for sure! @MsStretch , @DaveMcK .
One constant in our lives has been totally tossed!
I hate this!
What can we do, and who the heck wanted a new design and format? This makes no sense to have all the dated posts mixed up!
Feel like I'm on Mars! Help!
We are soooo confused!

It takes getting used to. More info at Online Community Refresh!. I do see you've already been there, @catwoman500 . ๐
It seems if you reply to a specific post, then it will appear below the post you are responding to, rather than necessarily at the end of the entire thread, hence the possible date mix-up.
I am still playing with it, so the verdict is still out with me. You can still reorder the posts from oldest to newest (which I prefer) rather than the default 'newest to oldest'.
We shall see.

I think this explains an awful lot about what the people here on the Front Porch and around the world are feeling as they are calling it here " pandemic fatigue"! I hope this explains what we are definitely feeling as we try to survive to see a better time. Please stay safe and stay well! Have an enjoyable New Week.
LONDON โ France has placed cities on โmaximum alertโ and ordered many to close all bars, gyms and sports centers on Saturday. Italy and Poland have made masks compulsory in public. The Czech Republic has declared a state of emergency, and German officials fear new outbreaks could soon grow beyond the control of their vaunted testing and tracing.
Across Europe and beyond, Covid-19 has come roaring back, and, as happened last spring, officials are invoking restrictions to try and suppress it. But this time is different.
Still reeling from the economic, emotional and physical toll of nationwide lockdowns that brought the Continent to a virtual standstill, government officials are finding that the public might not be so compliant the second time around.
In some places new restrictions are accepted, albeit grudgingly, because the alternative โ new nationwide lockdowns โ would only be worse. But there is widening skepticism that the public would even go along with such a drastic step.
Instead, as exhaustion and frustration with pandemic restrictions sets in, governments are trying to thread a narrowing course between keeping the virus in check and what their publics and economies will tolerate. That is especially so in democracies, where governments are ultimately answerable to the voters.
โIt is going to be a lot more difficult this time,โ said Cornelia Betsch, Heisenberg-Professor of Health Communication at Erfurt University, in Germany, citing โpandemic fatigue.โ

38*and sunny bit of a nip in the air. Think Iโll wait for coat to dry before hiking might be warmer.
Iโll take the pandemic fatigue vs the alternative, admit Iโve lost count on shutdowns, weโre necessary (company).
Keep your brain active, walk , mask up and avoid crowds are the alternatives for sanity. The UK courtesy of the BBC take pandemic as seriously as Maine.
Small overall population vs, huge numbers they also have the war mentality still going on.
Time to move my brain requires caffeine.

Hi, all,
WhewโฆDelta remnants are messing with us today. Certainly not as bad as the poor folks who got hit directly, but itโs making for a miserable day. Staying in the 50โs until tonight when it rises a bit. Normally I wouldnโt have to go out in it because the post office is closed, but dang it all I had a doc appt. at 9:00. Got my flu shot, too, and will now have to wait 2 weeks to a month before I get my second Shingrix shot.
@Frozenoem โฆdid you take that shot of the gorgeous trees? WOW! Now that says, โautumnโ for sure!
@DaveMcK โฆstay extra safe!
@MsStretch โฆEagles screwed it up again yesterday. ๐ซ
I agree that it is time for more caffeine.

Yep, never fails invariably need to lose the rubbery feeling in my legs when I hit that hill.
Around 1/2 hour walk from house, I did say I live in the woods.
Uphill both ways, heckuva lot easier in a truck vs on leg power.
But, doable just takes awhile.
And need to stop to breathe along the way, and definitely before snapping with cellphone.๐คฃ
Signs of other than autumn are in our future had first flakes, last night.

@MsStretch ...Just to clarify...I can get my second Shingrix any time now as I've passed the 2 month mark, but my doc now wants me to wait 2 more weeks to a month to get it after I got my flu shot today just to be on the safe side. ๐

@catwoman500 , Football Team didn't do much better. Lordy, the NFC East is really, really bad, huh?
Interesting about your Shingrix shot. Pharmacist told me second one in 2-6 months.
Delta finally started to move out to the Atlantic. Last night, I moved my truck out from under any suspect trees (or as many as I could) to avoid any falling soggy branches again.

Good afternoon everyone on the Front Porch on this Sunday morning in 2020. We are expecting temps in the lower 60's with a little chance of rain this week. Temps will be in low 70's by the weekend.
Hoping everyone will have a restful day and week.
Even though this could be construed as a political statement it is key to Mary's, our family, friends and all Wisconsinites it is important to raise the flag that we are backwards across the world!
CDC: Wisconsin has 4th highest number of new COVID-19 cases
Wisconsin now has the fourth-highest number of new coronavirus cases in the country, according to the CDC. Now, Governor Tony Evers says that is in part because of a highly-divided political climate -- including many who are not wearing masks as a political statement.
MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin now has the fourth-highest number of new coronavirus cases in the country, according to the CDC. Now, Governor Tony Evers says that is in part because of a highly-divided political climate -- including many who are not wearing masks as a political statement.
Governor Tony Evers
"When our leaders in the state don't want to cooperate on this issue, it makes it difficult for people that support them across the state," Evers said.
Wisconsin's new high ranking from the CDC is based on cases of COVID-19 in the last seven days. Many of those cases are among 18-24-year-olds as many of them returned to college campuses.
Evers said on Thursday it is the wide range in opinions keeping Wisconsin from flattening the curve.
"We will continue to push this issue," Evers said.
FOX6 News has heard from many sharing their thoughts.
"It's just a good safety precaution," said Andrew Miller, who supports the mask mandate. "I don't see it as an infringement of my rights. I still get to go do and be active the way that I want."
"People are being smart, people are being respectful of each other. I think it's a little heavy-handed to have a mandate," said Dennis Berg, who opposes the mask mandate.
Many who oppose the mandate are still happy to wear masks in local shops and restaurants.
"A lot of people really don't like that mandate," Berg said. "In this suburb, people are responsible. And I`m not seeing anything that bothers me."

Afternoon Sunday 49* sunny, have begun hiking again, ๐ฉ shoot on when Iโll be able to check in mornings.
Need to exercise and remain upright๐ While doing it.
Somethings surpass politics as per usual, like how weโve become a 3rd world nation at Tโs doing, next year we leave NATO, WHO,etc.
Someone can perhaps remember where he puts us at 9th class nation in recent speech.
Strong believer in mask vs the alternative of unmasked spreader, would prefer not to expire this or next year. Took 2+ years to feel human again.
Have to offer my thanks to Socialism, I guess. Medicare, TriCare and Martins Point for new drugs and research for multitude of pre-conditions. But, my brain is back.

Mary and I voted by absentee ballots this weekend on Saturday at the Madison city park near us. They station poll workers at all Madison city parks. They checked all envelops to be sure they were signed and witnessed. They collected them and turned them into the City Clerks Office in the afternoon. They were posted as recieved over night and locked in a vault till November 3rd. They will then be taker to our ward to be verified and entered into the voting machines.
We were able to go to My Vote - Wisconsin online to check their status Sunday.
We seam to be talking football to start the week. With a win tonight the Packers will be 4 - 0 and in sole possession of 1st place of the NFC North.

Happy Monday, Porch Peeps!
The sun is shining and itโs going up to 70โฆa great day here!
Hope everyone had a nice weekend.
@DaveMcK โฆ nice colors! We are slow to change for some reason. My smoke tree just got brown and then all the leaves fell off. Wondering if the tree is dying although the arborist didnโt mention anything when he was here to assess the downed limb on the other tree. Pretty looking tree, but so messy. Itโs like I have tumbleweeds all over the place in the summer. Used to be a pain when they blew in the pool, too.
In case you are wondering, this is a smoke tree:
My friends who live in the woods, about 45 min. north of here had a change overnight last week. Their huge backyard looks gorgeous.
@LaDolceVita โฆSo glad you made to your favorite month! Bye Bye heat and humidity, huh? ๐บ
Eagles finally got a win over the 49ers yesterday. Takes them to first place in the East with one winโฆkinda pathetic, but weโll take it. We'll also take the 5% discount at the Acme when you wear Eagles attire on game days. Since the Eagles usually play on Sundays, I'm in like Flint! ๐
GO EAGLES!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
I see you!

@catwoman500 , actually Eagles in 3-way tie for first place with Football Team and Cowboys. And since Football Team has one division win and Eagles and Cowboys have none, technically... ๐. Giants hold sole last place. It would appear that the NFC East has the worst record of all the divisions. ๐คฆ
Cool-looking smoke tree, but yes, I can imagine the 'tumbleweeds'.
Still pretty green and brownish around here, but the acorns are now starting to get dangerous. ACK! Rapid fire! ๐ท
But it's those branches that scare me. Just got nice new windshield. The ding on roof next to windshield did not impact new installation. Whew! It's ironic that my insurance co. recently gave out COVID rebates, because less cars on road, less accidents and my first claim happened while my truck was sitting parked in my driveway!

64* and cloudy, didnโt want to get out of bed this am, so slept in.
Fingers just not happy with any keyboards or my lighter for fire last night.
Played 90 pill pickup, this noon.
Need 12 pills every 12 hours to walk upright, with more food than Iโve ever eaten, otherwise nausea and hallucinations.Itโs the 70โs all over again.
PT will be fun next week, have hiked-yes 10 miles 3 times this month and last.Thatโs in total per trip, more or less.
No mail in 2 weeks, believe the post office may have been effectively killed by t. I usually get 2 post office boxes per week, filled with magazines and correspondence.
Guess itโs time to go digital on magazines and stop paying $150 year for the largest mail box at P.O., will see after November 3.
Our local Fair in Maine Standards, will be going virtual weโre in lockdown again. Maine Standards= less than 100 miles away is local.
Great recipe for fudge at end of piece, still losing weight, guess what ai eat four times per day this far my caps are happy๐คฃ.

Good morning to everyone on Our Front Porch!
It's 63 degrees right now with a forecasted high of 77 degrees by mid afternoon. Like @LaDolceVita, I am truly enjoying these days of muted sun and moderate temps. It's warm enough to yet sit outside and comfortable enough to spend hours working in my yard without being overwhelmed by the blaze of the sun and heat of the day. Warm days and cool nights...what a blessing.
I'm also enjoying the beauty that is unique to fall...the fall colors. The green leaves are giving way to the colors of fall--the yellows, the oranges, and reds. Some leaves have slowly begun to drift from they lofty perches above. Not many though. Soon they will turn brown and fall, but I thankfully won't have that great abundance of leaves to rake this year because I had that enormous tree removed earlier in the spring. And my neighbor later had his "old faithful" cut down as well. So he and I stand to have a very light task of raking and bagging leaves this season. Yippee!
I'm glad everyone is yet hanging in there on Our Porch. @Frozenoem, I hope your new meds will really take ahold and help get those shakes and staggers, as you call them, under control. I find myself having days where I limp and drag myself around the house as well; particularly when "old arthir" kicks in. But you seem to do remarkably well despite having a disagreeable body at times. I guess we all have to do the best we can with our bodily changes as the years advance. And so we do.
Morning, @catwoman500 , @MsStretch , @DaveMcK , and everybody else stopping by the porch today. I hope you all are safe and well and happy as much as possible. Enjoy the day and I hope you all have a great weekend!
Now,
Lydia

Hi there, Peeps!
Guess everyone has been busy with fall stuffโฆnot much action here on the porch.
Had my coffee on my porch this AM, with a jacket on! Itโs supposed to go to 80 today, but I donโt think thatโs going to happen itโs cloudy and still at 64. Sounds like your forecast, @LydiaN586309 , except we have no sun. Love your animal pictures.
The week went kind of fast for me since I actually had 3 things to do this week! Nothing really exciting, but at least I got out. Hairdresser on Tuesday, out to lunch for the third time since COVID hit on Wednesday, and then the periodontist on Thursday. Ready for my crown to be made, but the dentist has no openings until November 19! So frustrating.
At lunch on Wednesday the 3 of us were one of 2 parties eating. Not sure how these restaurants are staying afloat. Probably catering and take out, but this was a rather upscale restaurant so not sure they would do take out.
@Frozenoem โฆhope your fingers are working!
Everyone have a good weekend while staying safe!

76 * and sunny for now, arose at 5:30 and took a hike, just to move, not used to sitting upon my hands this much.
Speed is returning slowly, and today was for pleasure only , no one to scatter๐
Canโt get shots until next week, Iโm hoping flu and pneumonia. Seems people are requesting more than average year, courtesy of COVID in mill 20+ cases, 2 towns away.
Colors are appearing, most leaves are still attached to trees in Western Maine mountains.
Social distancing no problem.

50* and raining๐ Itโs a good thing near as I can tell weโre down around 10-16โ on rainfall totals. Come to think of it I was able to see out first floor Windows all last Winter. And there just havenโt been that many drenching rains this spring or summer.
Generally only get this many acorns during drought and later in November, something about mast production floatin in my mind.
Nothing seems normal in 2020, this will either be a year to remember or one for erasure from history depending upon who wins.
Mask up all, pills are hitting, 2 more months to get used to them , feel colorful dreams coming on.
