Never once did I see someoneโs head pop up with an apple clenched in their teeth!
โฆand I had forgotten about the Cake Walk. We had that too! I remember the winner receiving a bag of treats during our Halloween Carnival - not a cake.
I also remember โPin the wart on the Witchโ, and another game played with a blindfold called โDraculaโs Dinnerโ. I still recall being led, while blindfolded, up to a table and being told that Dracula had prepared a feast for me. I was just so delightfully creeped out as I touched โwitchโs eyeballsโ (oiled grapes), โFrankensteinโs fingersโ (link sausages), โZombie brainsโ (mashed potatoesโ, and such!

Actually,I just replaced my very very old HVAC unit in my basement that had one of these old types. The unit never got ran very much being in a daylight basement so it lasted and lasted - actually still OK when I replaced it - thought I better go ahead and do it because the new ones with the new type refrigerant cost more. Now I understand that this conversion might be delayed by the new Administration. Oh well, its done now.
The only problem that I ever had with this thermostat was that it was too high for me since I am very short - so I had to have a ladder to adjust it. But I am use to things like that - every room has a ladder - not too high but does give that extra 12โ.

Your post reminded me of a ritual at the Parochial school that I attended so many years ago. From First through Eighth grade, we were assigned our place in line by height. I was always first.
(Even when I inhaled and held my breath so that maybe, just once, Iโd be second in line, but nope - those nuns werenโt having it. ๐ฅด). Today, when inhaling, I am a towering 5โ4โ. ๐

I have NEVER seen or heard about these - we were pretty poor and lived way out on a farm so no real stores around - Katz Store? what;โs that? But we did do a lot of damage to ourselves, others and property with homemade sling shots. When we got older, everybody did get a BB gun or at least a hand-me-down.
Bikes were even a rarity until later on when the roads got paved.
Yep - a different beginning. Trying to remember when we got indoor plumbing.

Yessss ! The old Red Ryder BB guns.. Most all of us kids had one eventually.. I made my own sling shot out of an old inner tube cut into strips ( remember those, before tubeless tires? ) and a Y shaped piece of oak.. I discovered later that by combining 2 strips of tube on each side and weaving them together I could increase the muzzle velocity of my slingshot dramatically.. Possibly my first introduction into the physical sciences.

I don't remember Katz Store, either, but homemade slingshots? Oh, yes! We used to hold battles with those. What bad could happen with slinging gravel and rocks at each other? I remember making some with the elastic bands from our underwear. That definitely didn't go well with Mom. ๐
